An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Registered Children's Nurse to support the continuing development of the Paediatric Epilepsy/Neurology Service at Darent Valley Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and innovative Registered Children's Nurse with experience in paediatric epilepsy to join our service to work as part of our specialist nursing team across Paediatrics.
We have an epilepsy/neurology team offering an excellent service for children and young people within the locality, forging strong links with tertiary services.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work across children's services providing clinical, specialist and holistic support/advice to children and young people.
We are looking for you to apply if you are a motivated clinical children's nurse, with knowledge and experience in paediatric epilepsy, preferably including experience working with young people approaching transition to adult services. You will be working independently running nurse led clinics and also supporting consultant clinics. You will have excellent interpersonal, IT and communication skills with the ability to organise, manage and plan your own workload effectively. You will be dedicated and passionate in your role whilst demonstrating excellent leadership and team working. You will be energetic and dedicated in working as an advocate in support of our children, young people and their families.

Job description Job responsibilities
The successful applicant will run joint and nurse led clinics in conjunction with Consultant colleagues to offer the highest level of care to the patients. You will manage a caseload of children and young people with epilepsy. You will be the point of contact for the epilepsy service, supporting families who have children with epilepsy.
The role will provide specialist support and advice. You will be expected to provide advice and support in relation to management of epilepsy for children and young people, and will be expected to provide clinical and educational support to staff within the Trust. This will involve reviewing patients on the children's acute ward as well as in the outpatients setting.

Registration on the NMC register as a Children's Nurse Educated to degree level in nursing or equivalent experience Post registration basic qualification relevant to specialty Practice Assessor qualification Completion of a Practice Supervisor programme ENB 998 or equivalent Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

PET 1 Epilepsy Course
Experience Essential
Minimum of 2 years' relevant post registration experience in paediatrics at Band 6, or substantial experience at Band 5, with experience caring for children with epilepsy and/or neurological conditions Experience of using evidence based practice Previous experience in teaching of patients & staff

Previous experience in audit and evaluation Demonstrate understanding of relevant national strategy/policy and how this relates to the service
Knowledge and Skills Essential
Able to demonstrate clinical knowledge, skills and expertise Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues Strong leadership, decision-making, and organisational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work under pressure and manage complex situations. Digital Literacy and ability to use NHS IT systems. Understanding of the holistic needs of children and families with epilepsy/neurology Able to deliver teaching sessions and presentations
Desirable
Experience in mentoring and training junior staff. Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures, and clinical governance frameworks. Ability to plan and run nurse led clinics
