The Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, availability, performance, security, and continuous improvement of the company’s database platforms. The role primarily supports Oracle and PostgreSQL environments and contributes to the reliable delivery of services in a 24/7 operational context.
The DBA also provides technical expertise for projects and new solutions, ensuring that database requirements related to architecture, performance, capacity, high availability, recoverability, and operational support are properly addressed. What you'll be doing:
• Administer, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot production and non-production databases.
• Ensure database availability, performance, integrity, security, and compliance with agreed service levels.
• Manage backup, restore, recovery, replication, high-availability, and disaster-recovery activities.
• Monitor database health, capacity, storage, logs, jobs, and performance indicators.
• Analyze and resolve incidents, recurring problems, and database performance issues.
• Perform SQL analysis and optimization, including execution-plan review, indexing recommendations, and query tuning.
• For Oracle environments, create and manage SQL Profiles and SQL Plan Baselines for problematic SQL statements.
• Apply Oracle database patches, including preparation, testing, implementation, validation, and rollback planning.
• Support PostgreSQL upgrades, including assessment, test planning, migration, cutover, and post-upgrade validation.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for recurrent operational tasks, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and validation activities.
• Participate in change, incident, problem, release, and configuration-management processes.
• Provide DBA expertise during projects, technical analysis, design reviews, migrations, and production deployments.
• Maintain clear and up-to-date operational documentation, procedures, runbooks, and recovery instructions.
• Participate in 24/7 operational support and on-call activities when required.
What you need to know/have:
Primary Technologies
• Strong practical experience with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL database administration.
• Strong SQL skills, including query analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery, user and access management, capacity management, and monitoring.
• Knowledge of high-availability and disaster-recovery concepts and solutions.
Oracle
• Oracle database administration in production environments.
• Oracle patching and post-patch validation.
• SQL performance tuning, execution-plan analysis, indexing, SQL Profiles, and SQL Plan Baselines.
• Knowledge of Oracle security concepts, including users, roles, privileges, and profiles.
• Familiarity with Oracle backup and recovery tools and procedures.
PostgreSQL
• PostgreSQL administration, monitoring, backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL replication and high-availability concepts.
• Experience or familiarity with PostgreSQL version upgrades and migration activities.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve PostgreSQL performance and operational issues.
Automation and Platform Skills
• Strong Shell scripting skills, preferably Bash or KSH.
• Experience with PL/SQL and/or PL/pgSQL for database scripting and automation.
• Ability to automate repetitive DBA tasks and operational controls.
• Good Linux/UNIX administration knowledge.
• Basic knowledge of networking and storage technologies, including TCP/IP, SAN, and NAS.
Preferred / Additional Skills
• Administration experience with MySQL or MariaDB.
• Experience with MongoDB.
• Experience with Nagios as a monitoring tool.
• Experience using Ansible for automation and configuration management.
• Experience using Jenkins or CI/CD pipelines for database deployment and automation.
• Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, logging, and ticketing tools.
• Experience in large-scale, telecom, financial, or other 24/7 critical IT environments.
Experience and Qualifications
• Degree in IT, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, or related fields.
• At least 5 years of experience in database administration.
• Experience working with production databases in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
• Good written and spoken English. French is an advantage.
