Note for Salary: This is the starting salary for this position. This position offers biannual pay increases for employees that are satisfactorily progressing towards qualification, meeting the company’s expectations and standards, and adhering to workplace policies. The maximum pay rate is typically achieved at the career level within two to three years.

Job Family Description: Maintenance/production personnel support the operational success of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, buildings, systems, and shops. Professionals in these roles are responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of equipment, machinery, and production processes to meet quality, safety, and productivity standards.

Discipline Description: Electrical and Instrumentation Control (E&IC) personnel are responsible for the implementation, operation, and maintenance of instrument/electrical systems. They troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical equipment and solve technical problems in nuclear facility settings

New hires will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program comprised of classroom and on-the-job training (OJT) at SRNS and earning the Electrical Fundamentals Certification from Aiken Technical College. The program is designed to train apprentices to perform the E&I Maintenance processes. Apprentices will first be enrolled in the Electrical Fundamentals certification program at Aiken Technical College, and once successfully completed will transition to full-time training at SRNS.

The work schedule will consist of 40 hours of paid time per week. Apprentices will have both classroom and on-the-job training under the guidance of a qualified E&I Maintenance operator or instructor and will utilize the "earn while you learn" method. OJT will consist of field time working with industry professionals in the areas of Safety, Maintenance, Radiation Protection, and Operations combined with regulatory instruction required to perform industrial work at SRS.

Apprentices will enroll in and achieve the Electrical Fundamentals Certificate at Aiken Technical College and must obtain a passing grade on all exams and in all courses. The courses consist of Intermediate Algebra, Power and Hand Tool Operations, Commercial and Industrial Wiring, AC/DC Drives, AC/DC Machines, Electronic Devices, and Control Circuits.

Upon completion of the program, employees will receive a nationally recognized and portable credential from the Department of Labor and continue performing job functions as described below.

Work from approved standard and special procedures. Perform simple or routine maintenance activities based on skills and knowledge attained from training and previous experience. Obtain guidance from more experienced or higher-level mechanics and supervision when the condition warrants. Complete work orders, service requests and stores orders. Follow/comply with applicable Safety and Radiological Protection policies and procedures. Assemble instrumentation and electrical or electronic apparatus from material and parts following maintenance instructions. Calibrate mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and electronic equipment against standards such as weight, pressure, temperature, voltage, frequency, chemical, radiation and isotopic concentrations, requiring simple calculations and conversion of units. Adjust clearance, force, linkage, voltage, current, resistance, capacitance and inductance as required. Assist more experienced and higher-level mechanics with the installation, inspection and maintenance of complex instruments, electrical and electronic equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and allied equipment. Support installation of and work under documented and single point lockouts. Operate motorized vehicles and associated equipment within licensing limits. Perform incidental rigging on equipment. May be required to perform specific operations functions where specific module training has been provided. Perform administrative functions such as read and understand manuals and procedures. Other administrative functions as needed to perform job. Perform work functions such as attend and successfully complete classroom, on-the-job training, lectures, seminars and other forms of training. Meet the physical requirements for the essential job duties, which may include being able to handle 50 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperature, and wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory) and meeting Radiological Protection requirements. Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Required Qualifications: • High school diploma, GED, or other equivalent State Credential • Candidates must have completed ACT WorkKeys Skills assessment and achieved minimum scores of 2 in Workplace Observation, 3 in Graphic Literacy, and 4 in Applied Technology or the following WIN Assessments – Work Ready Data Level 3; Work Ready Math Level 3; and Work Ready Reading Level 3. • Test scores must be within the last five years. (Official documentation must be provided to the company for consideration of employment. Results must be uploaded into BrassRing on the ATTACHMENTS page at the time the application is submitted online).

Security Clearance Information: SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications.
