Senior Foundational Platforms Engineer - IT- REMOTE
Job Description: Job Summary The Senior Foundational Platforms Engineer is a recognized technical expert responsible for leading large-scale infrastructure initiatives, establishing technical standards, advising on platform direction, and resolving highly complex infrastructure challenges. This role provides advanced technical leadership across the Foundational Platforms team while remaining an individual contributor role unless otherwise defined by leadership. The IT Infrastructure Foundational Platforms team helps maintain and improve the core infrastructure services that support Heartland Dental's operations. Heartland Dental is the nation's largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,000 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in 1,900+ dental offices. Each Heartland Dental supported office is unique to the community and the patients they serve. Supported doctors are the clinical leaders of their practice, retain full clinical autonomy, and establish their own care philosophies. All Heartland Dental supported doctors are united by a common goal: delivering the highest quality dental care and patient experiences. To give you an idea of the team structure, you will work on the IT Infrastructure Foundational Platforms team, reporting to the Sr. Manager, Platform Engineering. This role partners closely with Application Development, DevOps, Networking, Security, Help Desk, and other technology teams to support stable and effective infrastructure services. Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:
• Support the IT Infrastructure Foundational Platforms team through expert-level technical leadership, large-scale initiative ownership, standards development, architecture input, advanced escalation support, and coaching of engineering talent. • Lead the design, implementation, documentation, and improvement of complex infrastructure solutions within assigned platform domains. • Manage large technical initiatives or complex infrastructure workstreams with limited oversight, coordinating across multiple IT teams as needed. • Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical patterns, configuration practices, and operational best practices for assigned platform areas. • Serve as the highest-level technical escalation resource for complex or persistent issues within assigned infrastructure domains. • Coach, review, and support the work of lower-level engineers through technical guidance, documentation review, and knowledge-sharing. • Evaluate emerging technologies, platform trends, and operational needs to advise leadership on practical future-state direction and modernization opportunities. • Partner with App/Dev, DevOps, Networking, Security, Help Desk, and other IT teams to align infrastructure design, implementation, and support practices. • Support long-term platform planning, technical roadmap input, lifecycle management, and risk reduction efforts for assigned technologies. • Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities for significant platform incidents or recurring technical issues. • Complete other duties as assigned.
