POSITION PURPOSE: The Traffic Director is responsible for crossing students safely at dedicated and marked crosswalks at intersections while utilizing proper safety procedures. Custodian: Under general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping working the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Work involves sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, woodwork and fixtures; and policing buildings to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Basic knowledge of traffic safety regulations
• Basic knowledge of safe crossing techniques
• Basic knowledge of safe behavior expectations
• Knowledge of basic chain of command for reporting concerns, violations of policies,complaints, and/or safety hazards
• Knowledge of locations and purposes of street traffic signs within assigned patrol areas
• Ability to discern situations that could impact the safety of students and to address them immediately and effectively
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, adults and members of the community
• Ability to follow directions and to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to learn responsibilities within the first week of employment
• General knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in janitorial work.
• Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to perform medium physical work
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
• Education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
• Must be 18 or over
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
• Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• CPR and/or First Aid Training and/or Certification
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor traffic flow to appropriately assist traffic onto and off ABSS properties while maintaining the fluidity of streets / highways.
• Direct vehicular movement using appropriate signs, flags, lanterns, and hand signals.
• Guide or control vehicular and pedestrian traffic on streets / highways as applicable.
• Report unsafe behavior of students to school administrators.
• Report and discuss performance, complaints, or violations with supervisor(s).
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals; report infractions to the school's SRO.
• Distribute traffic control signs and markers at designated points, as needed.
• Discuss traffic routing plans and control point locations with school administrators.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal, Transportation Director, or Assistant Director
• Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes and buffs floor surfaces.
• Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary.
• Cleans windows, walls, doors, woodwork, supply vents and return vents, blinds and light fixtures.
• Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
• Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
• Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways, as necessary>
• Replaces burned-out light bulbs. Replaces ceiling tiles.
• Change ceiling tiles as necessary while standing on a ladder.
• Prepares requisition forms to obtain necessary supplies for coming workweek.
• Sets traps for rodents and other pests, appropriately discarding trapped animals.
• Performs minor maintenance on appliances, as abilities allow.
