POSITION: Homeless and Foster Care Liaison LOCATION: West Campus Annex SALARY: State Salary Schedule TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Under general supervision, responsible for coordinating the McKinney Vento program and Foster Care support; ensuring that all qualifying students are identified and mandated support is provided.
• Under general supervision, responsible for serving as a liaison for JCPS between schools, Department of Social Services, families and community groups to assure the delivery of mandated services for children in foster care and that they are supported in the school setting.
• Has knowledge of school organizations and community providers.
• Obtain and maintain required data for McKinney Vento and Foster Care reporting to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, grants and other parties as deemed necessary.
• Help to coordinate and direct Best Interest Determination meetings for JCPS students.
• Has ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, community members and state organizations in written and oral presentation.
• Participate in community and regional committees that support identified students and communicate out to JCPS teams new information and resources.
• Assist site staff with the identification of homeless and at-risk students and maintain ongoing documentation concerning their residency status.
• Assist site staff with the identification of students in foster care and maintain ongoing documentation concerning their status and location.
• Identify, certify and support the needs of homeless students while working with different teams to ensure the delivery of mandated services to facilitate students' attendance and access to appropriate education.
• Communicate directly with high school students identified as McKinney Vento or Foster Care to ensure they have the needed support to graduate high school and know the resources for their post-graduation plan.
• Assist families with transportation, school supplies, emergency clothing, referrals to medical, dental, mental health or other services that they may need through area providers through direct practice, team coordination and referrals.
• Conduct staff and community education on homeless and foster care youth needs and requirements for the education system.
• Make home visits as necessary.
• Maintain professional practice and development and stay current with laws, regulations and policies which impact homeless students, at-risk youth, and students in foster care through a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops and share that information with district staff.
• Support and implement Board of Education policy as related to school and student situations and communicate this information to students, family, and community members as necessary.
• Work independently, with minimal supervision and guidance, in performing all assigned responsibilities in an efficient and correct manner.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid NC school social worker (SSW) license. Other professional licenses from NCDPI may be considered, but SSW license is given priority.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
• Must be able to operate a vehicle
• Must be able to lift up to 25lb for movement of supplies
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must possess a valid NC driver's license.
• Strong interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
• Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
• Experience with spreadsheets and assessing data.
