Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Definition of Work The In-School Suspension Monitor provides supervision and support for high school students who have been assigned to in-school suspension. The monitor maintains a structured, orderly, and respectful environment where students are expected to complete assigned classroom work and follow school expectations. This position works closely with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school staff to help students remain engaged in their academic responsibilities while serving their assigned suspension. The monitor is responsible for maintaining accurate attendance and documentation, monitoring student behavior, communicating concerns to appropriate school personnel, and ensuring that students understand and follow the expectations of the in-school suspension. The position requires patience, consistency, good judgment, and the ability to establish appropriate professional relationships with students. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions
• Provides daily supervision of students assigned to in-school suspension and maintains a quiet, structured environment conducive to completing schoolwork.
• Takes attendance and maintains accurate records of students assigned to and present in the in-school suspension classroom.
• Reviews expectations with students and reinforces school rules, procedures, and behavioral standards in a consistent and respectful manner.
• Ensures students have access to assignments and instructional materials provided by their teachers and encourages students to complete assigned work during the suspension period.
• Monitors student behavior and addresses minor behavioral concerns appropriately while referring serious or continuing concerns to the appropriate administrator.
• Communicate with teachers and administrators regarding student attendance, work completion, behavior, and other concerns that may affect a student's successful completion of in-school suspension.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding student information and handles student records and disciplinary information appropriately.
• Assists students in remaining focused on their academic responsibilities and encourages appropriate decision-making and responsible behavior.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment and follows established school procedures for emergencies, student conflicts, and other situations requiring administrative assistance.
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries with students and demonstrates fairness, patience, and respect in all interactions.
• Follows all district and school policies, procedures, safety practices, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Knowledge of basic school rules, procedures, and expectations for student conduct.
• Ability to work effectively with high school students from a variety of backgrounds and with varying behavioral and academic needs.
• Ability to maintain a calm, professional, and respectful manner when working with students who may be frustrated, upset, or resistant to the suspension process.
• Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing positive working relationships with students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and recognize when a situation requires assistance from an administrator or other school personnel.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
• Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of the school team.
Education and Experience Prior to employment, paraprofessionals requirements must be met with the requirements listed below. (Paraprofessional documents must be submitted with the application)
• Minimum employment requirements; at least 60 semester hours earned at an accredited institution of higher education; or an associate's degree (or higher); or a South Carolina approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level.
• Paraprofessionals may meet the assessment requirement by passing the Paraprofessional Assessment (5758 Reading and Writing) and (5759 Mathematics) (ETS.org). The minimum passing score for (5758 Reading and Writing) is 332 and (5759 Mathematics) is 334.
Special Requirements
• Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation.
• Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results no older than one year must be provided.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Frequently squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward.
• Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this position.
• Frequent interruptions and immediate attention to unexpected situations are expected.
• Will regularly work indoors and may occasionally work outdoors.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
