JOB SUMMARY:. Caroline County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Family Support Coordinator. This is a part-time, hourly position (up to 25 hours per week) that is located in the Family Support Services office at Denton Elementary School. This position reports to the Supervisor and Coordinators of Special Education and will provide family support, parent training, and resources to the Infant and Toddler program, preschool partners, and parents of children with disabilities in Caroline County Public Schools. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be a parent/direct caregiver of a child with a disability receiving services from Caroline County Public Schools or the Infants and Toddlers program;

• Bachelor's degree preferred; and

• Project a positive image of the school to the school community and the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assists families in understanding the special education process, so they can feel empowered to make informed decisions regarding their child's education;

• Provides information about disabilities, the special education process, and CCPS/community resources to support families of students with disabilities via phone calls, face-to-face meetings, emails, training events, or informational resources.

• Maintains professionalism, integrity, and keeps all information in the strictest confidence for families and professionals;

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Parental Involvement/Technical Support

• Provides information and support to children and families who are enrolled in various Special Education programs in CCPS;

• Increases parental involvement in the early intervention and special education decision-making process;

• Participates in IEP Teams, as necessary, with families and schools to foster and strengthen relationships among all stakeholders and assist families through the IFSP or IEP process;

• Assists families in resolving concerns to make informed decisions regarding their child's education;

• Training & Resources

• Develops and conducts parent/family workshops on the IEP Process, developing collaborative relationships for educators, and other topics of interest pertaining support of students with disabilities and their families;

• Assists with the preparation of training materials, evaluation forms, facility, and audiovisual equipment required for the trainings;

• Provides information about disabilities and support in the CCPS school system and Caroline County community via phone, email, trainings, etc;

• Maintains a resource library for parent use at Denton Elementary School;

• Clerical

• Responds effectively and quickly to parent and school questions;

• Tracks correspondence/support with families for county and state reporting requirements;

• Assists with encouraging families to complete the yearly MSDE Parent Survey;

• Oversees collection and data entry of CCPS IEP Meeting Feedback postcards;

• Events

• Coordinates all Special Education Citizens' Advisory Committee (SECAC) meetings (e.g., tracks RSVPs, creates agenda and marketing flyers, etc);

• Assists with coordination and planning of family events including but not limited to the SECAC Staff Appreciation Night, SECAC Discovery Days, SECAC/Family Support Sensory Sensitive Holiday Evening, and SECAC/Family Support Bowling Event.

• Assists with public relations activities to promote the Special Education Department and prepares materials to distribute (flyers, brochures, advertisements, invitations, etc.)

• Collaboration with Other Groups/Agencies

• Participates in all MSDE parent/family engagement trainings;

• Serves as a resource to local IEP teams regarding family engagement;

• Works with Eastern Shore Partners for Success Parent Liaisons to provide training and support to parents, families, teachers, and paraprofessionals across the mid-shore;

• Serves as a liaison to community organizations that support parents and families;

• Performs other duties as assigned.

PAY & HOURS: This is a part-time, non-benefited position, working up to 25 hours per week requiring a flexible schedule that includes occasional evening hours.
