Job Title: Construction Instructor/Manager Reports To: Chief Academic Officer/Head of School or designee Approved By: Superintendent Date Updated: September 18, 2026 SUMMARY The Construction Manager leads construction training and project operations at YouthBuild Preparatory Academy, connecting hands-on learning with academic skills, career preparation, and community service. The manager maintains safe worksites, delivers rigorous instruction, and helps students demonstrate mastery through meaningful projects. The role supports YBPA’s focus on boys and young men of color within an inclusive learning environment for all students. Its work reflects People & Relationships, Community, Self-determination, Health & Wellness, and Liberatory Education. Roles and Responsibilities Construction Training and Project Management •Plan and oversee construction projects, including schedules, work assignments, materials, and quality standards. •Teach construction skills, proper tool use, and workplace practices appropriate to each project and student’s readiness. •Collaborate with the Site Coordinator and academic staff to connect projects with course competencies, academic learning, and applicable industry credential requirements. Worksite Safety •Teach and enforce safety procedures, monitor worksite conditions, and stop unsafe work. •Maintain tools and equipment, track inventory, and ensure students use appropriate protective equipment and safe construction techniques. Student Development and Assessment •Assess and document student skills, give specific feedback, and provide opportunities to practice and demonstrate mastery. •Mentor students in leadership, teamwork, and accountability; coordinate with student support staff to address barriers to participation and progress. •Maintain accurate records of student training, competency development, and construction projects. Partnerships and Collaboration •Build relationships with contractors, employers, and unions to support projects, work-based learning, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities. •Participate in staff planning and professional development, and carry out other duties consistent with the position. Qualifications Education and Experience •High school diploma or equivalent and at least five years of construction or related experience. •Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, project coordination, and worksite safety; ability to teach and supervise students with varied experience levels. Personal Qualities •Commitment to youth development, high expectations, and YBPA’s mission and values. •Strong communication, organization, and recordkeeping skills; ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and community partners. •Spanish and English bilingual skills strongly preferred. Successful completion of required background checks. Salary: Based on Board of Trustees approved pay scale.
