Teacher Job Description MVCS Mountain Valley Community School (MVCS) is looking for a warm, collaborative, and student-centered Kindergarten Teacher to join our elementary team for the 2026–2027 school year. Kindergarten is a big deal. It is where many children begin to see themselves as readers, mathematicians, classmates, problem-solvers, and members of a school community. We are looking for an educator who can make that first year of school feel safe, joyful, purposeful, and full of possibility. At MVCS, we believe strong relationships are the foundation for strong learning. Our kindergarten teachers create welcoming classrooms, establish predictable routines, build student independence, and provide engaging instruction that meets children where they are while helping them grow. What You'll Bring We are looking for a teacher who:
• Builds genuine, positive relationships with young children and creates a classroom where every student feels known, valued, and included.
• Understands kindergarten as a unique developmental stage and embraces learning through a balance of explicit instruction, exploration, conversation, collaboration, movement, and play.
• Sets high expectations while providing the support and scaffolding young learners need to meet them.
• Uses student work and assessment data to understand what students know, identify areas of need, and adjust instruction.
• Is comfortable differentiating instruction and working with students across a wide range of academic, social, and developmental needs.
• Values collaboration and sees colleagues, interventionists, special educators, and support staff as partners in student success.
• Communicates openly and positively with families.
• Is reflective, flexible, and willing to learn, try new approaches, and grow with a team.
• Brings energy, patience, humor, and a genuine love of kindergarten to the work.
Instruction at MVCS Our kindergarten teachers work within a consistent, standards-aligned instructional framework while using professional judgment to meet the needs of their students. Current instructional resources include:
• HMH for literacy
• Amira to support literacy development and individualized reading practice
• Bridges in Mathematics for core math instruction
• MAGMA Math to provide additional math practice and support
• Targeted intervention and support through our broader MTSS framework
You do not need to walk in knowing every program. We will support you in learning our systems and resources. What matters most is that you are an educator who understands effective early literacy and mathematics instruction and is willing to use data, collaboration, and professional learning to continually improve your practice. Qualifications
• Valid Maine Elementary Teacher Certification (020) or eligibility for certification.
• Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to creating an equitable, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
