Position: Assistant Coach – Track & Field - Throws Coach (supplemental position) Reports to: Director of Athletics and Facilities Use Location: General McLane High School Duration: 2026-2027 School Year Functional Purpose: To lead the throws coaching team (shotput, discus, javelin) and assist the head coach as needed. The Throws Coach is responsible for guided instruction in the area of rules, techniques, and tactics to grow student athletes, providing guidance to help the team enhance performance. Job Functions: Coach shotput, discus and javelin. Works with the Head Coach to develop weekly schedules for athletes who may throw and compete in track events. Helps run dual meets and yearly invitational. Present for fundraisers that support the team's finances and morale. Seeks yearly advancement in training for areas of influence. Helps in the development of strength and conditioning programs as needed. Completes appropriate paperwork, reports, and makes recommendations for improvement.
Preferred knowledge/skills/abilities: Experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in a particular activity. Knowledge of rules, theory, strategy, and regulations relating to the specific activity, including rules changes and new developments. Skill at providing leadership and developing rapport with students; constructing well organized and efficient practices and meets; communicating verbally and in writing; supervising students and school areas; and teaching good sportsmanship Additional notes: Depending on the activity, applicants must be willing and able to work on weekends and at various times of the day Compensation: This is a GMEA-contracted position and compensation is based on the 2026-2027 GMEA contract and amount listed.
