REPORTS TO: Team Coordinator QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma; college degree preferred. Access to a personal computer and reliable internet DUTIES: ? Develop a positive relationship of trust and caring with mentees. ? Be informed on all information regarding advice and act on information accordingly. ? Serve as the main advocate for mentees. ? Identify barriers and initiate interventions as needed. ? Make appropriate referrals to meet student academic or personal needs. ? Discuss advisement topics appropriate for the grade level of the student. ? Know why mentees are attending Coastal Plains, their goals, and their barriers. ? Be a positive influence/role model. ? Maintain confidentiality. ? Make home or work visits with social workers as needed. ? Serve on a mentee's student support team. Contact Mentees Weekly:
• Make a minimum of one mentee contact with each mentee per week, preferably in person.
• Call a mentee when he/she has missed two consecutive nights of school to discuss solutions.
Before contact: ? Check attendance. ? Check academic progress. During Contact: ? Discuss academic progress ? Acknowledge completions and accomplishments. ? Help set weekly goals (attendance, academic, and career) and provide the student a copy of the calendar. ? Remind mentee of upcoming reviews, testing, events, field trips, etc. (Call students the night before) ? Provide weekly encouragement to each advisee. After Contact: ? Log contact into Infinite Campus in Contact Log and include the progress % in Subject and Attendance ? Note attendance, current course progress, and progress goals for next week Contact parent/guardian/significant adult once per month (if appropriate) ? Be the link between home and school. ? Foster communication. ? Communicate positives (attendance, academic progress and career movement). ? Invite parents to visit school, especially for events. ? Inform parents of upcoming student activities. ? Hear concerns and act on them. ? Once per semester, provide a Course Plan to parents and get a signature to indicate receipt. ? Log contact into Infinite Campus The mentor will meet with their TEAM Coordinator monthly to discuss program progress, individual student concerns, etc.
