Job Title: Carpenter – Lock Shop Foreman Location: Service Center, 4041 North 72nd Street, Omaha, NE 68134 Reports To: Supervisor of Maintenance Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 Duty Days/Non-Exempt - 50B (plus an additional 9% of regulary hourly rate) Position Purpose: This position functions as a first-line supervisor for the Lock Shop. Responsible for the efficient and quality accomplishment of tasks by the Lock Shop staff. A skilled Carpenter with knowledge of various carpentry techniques. The individual will be responsible for performing general building maintenance and replacing deteriorated structural components. Tasks may involve both rough and finish carpentry. Limited construction and remodeling jobs will be performed as required. This individual will work in a service-oriented environment, will routinely be required to solve problems, establish priorities, and plan for completion of small-scale jobs. Duty may include evening shift and/or emergency calls. Essential Performance Responsibilities:

• Performs the duties of a craftsman, as a “working” foreman.

• Ensures that material and equipment are available. Purchases materials as required.

• Plans daily work schedules and assigns work assignments.

• Acts as liaison with school personnel and maintenance management.

• Assist in developing and maintaining a preventative and general building maintenance prioritization plan.

• Take initiative in identifying and resolving various repair problems to ensure proper job completion,

• Set up lock systems within district buildings, including setting up keyways, cutting keys, and making keys for building occupants per the system.

• Maintains a district grand master key system with sub-masters, building masters, and building sub-masters, all of which are subservient to the master system.

• Establishes and maintains a current record of lock systems and keys for every building.

• Repairs locks, locksets, and padlocks.

• Repairs and adjusts panic hardware and door closures.

• Replaces doors and frames, matching the original finish and trim work.

• Fabricates small parts for defective lock assemblies that are no longer available.

• Installs locksets in doors.

• Makes replacement keys for building locks, furniture, and cabinet locks, and vehicle entry and ignition systems.

• Coordinate and/or respond to key replacement requests, assuring District policy is followed by charging staff for lost keys and proper redistribution.

• Gains access in lock-out situations involving doors, file cabinets, and vehicles.

• Maintains a stock of essential parts, replenishing parts as needed.

• Maintains strict confidentiality of records.

• Required to enter time and materials, and technician comments, along with other information, into a computerized work order system.

• Perform trade-related tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor of Maintenance.

• Assist in developing and maintaining a preventive and general building maintenance prioritization plan.

• Assist District Administration and Schoolhouse Planning in planning (re)keying projects (local within building, school-wide, district-wide).

• Maintains satisfactory attendance and work records.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the manager and/or administrators, as designated by the Superintendent. Equipment: Must always comply with OPS's guidelines for equipment use. Travel: Local travel will be required. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

• Ability to lift items weighing a minimum of 70 pounds.

• Ability to work at heights up to 50 feet.

• Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding with tools and equipment weighing a minimum of 30 pounds.

• Ability to climb, kneel, stoop, walk, and engage in heavy physical activities, including exerting force equal to lifting seventy (70) pounds in performance of job-related tasks.

• Ability to work in physically restricted areas.

• Ability to use a respirator while working when conditions require it.

• Ability to pass a pulmonary function test.

• Ability to pass functional assessment of physical abilities.

Interrelations:

• Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.

• Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day-to-day tasks.

• Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.

• Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.

• Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

• In order for schools and departments to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.

• Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.

• All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.

• Minimum of 5 years of full-time journeyman experience in the trade.

• Possess strong leadership and communication skills.

• Knowledge and experience with project planning, project prioritizing, scheduling projects and assigning project to staff for efficiency of time and costs.

• Experience installing and repairing entry and exit systems with a specialization in locks, keys, doors, and door hardware.

• Knowledge of lock systems by Best, Schlage, Corbin General, Lockwood, Chrysler, General Motors, and Ford is essential.

• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

• Skills pertinent to positive human relationships with the ability to communicate and work effectively with staff members and the community in a multi-cultural setting.

• Above-average attendance and work performance.

• Possess strong organizational and time management skills.

• Demonstrate knowledge and use of personal computers, Microsoft Office software, with work order software preferred.

• Experienced with bench tools.

• Maintain strict confidentiality of information and records.

• Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.

• Ability to meet District's insurability requirements.

Terms of Employment: This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative. • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for the position offered).

• Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
