TITLE: White Fleet Operator
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt PAY GRADE 5
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Van/White Fleet Operator safely operates district-owned vehicles, including passenger vans, SUVs, trucks, and other white fleet vehicles, to transport students, staff, equipment, supplies, and materials within and outside the district. The operator is responsible for ensuring safe vehicle operation, performing routine inspections, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and complying with district policies, Arizona Department of Public Safety regulations, and all applicable state and federal laws.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES: (essential functions) • Safely operate district-owned vans and other white fleet vehicles. • Transport students, staff, supplies, mail, equipment, and instructional materials to designated locations. • Follow assigned routes, schedules, and transportation requests. • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns. • Maintain accurate vehicle logs, mileage records, and trip documentation. • Ensure compliance with all traffic laws, district transportation procedures, and safety regulations. • Assist passengers with entering and exiting vehicles when needed. • Secure equipment and materials to prevent shifting during transport. • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of assigned vehicles. • Communicate effectively with supervisors, school staff, parents, and students. • Respond appropriately in emergency situations and complete required incident reports. • Utilize GPS, district communication equipment, and transportation software as assigned. • Attend required meetings, trainings, and safety programs. • Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Knowledge of District policies and procedures. Knowledge of District student conduct rules. Knowledge of safe driving techniques in all road conditions. Knowledge of local geographical area, road systems, and city and Arizona traffic regulations. Knowledge of first aid and CPR. Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance practices. Knowledge of emergency response protocols. Skill in operating passenger vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, District policy and procedures, and state and local regulations. Skill in reacting quickly to situations that could create safety and security problems. Skill in using courtesy and respect in providing customer service to riders. Skill in monitoring and correcting student behavior. Skill in closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and others. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in a transit vehicle in a traffic environment, with moderate physical requirements. Required to perform the following physical requirements of the position with reasonable accommodation: vision corrected to 20/20, ability to hear in the normal range (corrected), able to speak clearly, and able to lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds, ability to drag 125 pounds, ability to bend, stoop, and reach, and the ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; minimum age of 21 years, experience operating any type of passenger transport vehicle is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill. Must pass a thorough background investigation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience transporting students in a public school district, experience operating fleet vehicles. REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid State of Arizona Driver's License, acceptable motor vehicle record, First Aid and CPR certifications, and an IVP fingerprint clearance card. This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing according to District policy. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten months per year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
