SAYDEL COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description Position: Student Teacher Position Type: Part-Time Position Summary Student Teachers at Saydel Community School District are valued members of our educational community and emerging professionals preparing for a career in education. Student Teachers work collaboratively with an assigned host teacher and building staff to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in teaching, learning, classroom management, assessment, and professional responsibilities. Through a partnership between Saydel Community School District and the Student Teacher's college or university preparation program, Student Teachers are provided opportunities to observe, plan, teach, assess, reflect, and grow under the guidance of an experienced host teacher. Student Teachers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, maintain high expectations for students, and contribute positively to a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Essential Functions Curriculum & Instruction
• Become familiar with and support implementation of Saydel Community School District's board-approved curriculum, instructional practices, and building expectations. • Develop and implement unit and daily lesson plans in collaboration with the host teacher and in accordance with applicable curriculum and preparation-program requirements. • Deliver instruction that is purposeful, engaging, and responsive to the learning needs of students. • Use formative and summative assessment information to monitor student learning and adjust instruction, as directed by the host teacher. • Prepare instructional materials and learning activities that support student engagement and achievement. • Provide appropriate accommodations and instructional supports for students, as directed by the host teacher and applicable student plans. • Incorporate feedback from the host teacher, building staff, and college or university supervisor to improve instructional practice. • Participate in professional learning, PLCs, meetings, observations, and other activities appropriate to the Student Teacher's placement. Professionalism
• Serve as a positive role model for students by demonstrating appropriate language, behavior, judgment, and professional conduct. • Establish and maintain professional relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and other school personnel. • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and follow district expectations regarding electronic communication and social media. • Maintain professional attire and appearance consistent with district and building expectations. • Demonstrate a growth mindset and actively seek opportunities to learn, reflect, and improve professional practice. • Maintain confidentiality of student and district information, including personally identifiable information, academic records, attendance, behavior information, contact information, and other confidential records. • Follow reasonable directives and expectations of the host teacher, building administration, and applicable college or university supervisor. • Participate, when appropriate, in student meetings, parent/guardian conferences, PLCs, professional learning, and other school activities as directed by the host teacher or building administration. • Follow all applicable Saydel Community School District board policies, administrative procedures, building expectations, and employee/associate requirements applicable to the placement. • Comply with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners' Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics. • Maintain professional conduct consistent with the expectations of an individual entering the education profession. Classroom Management & Learning Environment
• Support and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. • Implement classroom management strategies consistent with the host teacher's expectations and district and building procedures. • Supervise students appropriately and follow district procedures for student safety and supervision. • Support positive student behavior through proactive, consistent, and developmentally appropriate practices. • Respond appropriately to student needs and communicate concerns to the host teacher or appropriate school personnel. • Maintain accurate attendance and other classroom records as directed by the host teacher. • Follow all district procedures related to emergencies, student safety, mandated reporting, and other required student protections. Other Functions
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations for the purpose of protecting student and staff safety and notifying appropriate personnel. • Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, support staff, paraprofessionals, and other school personnel to support student learning. • Provide direction to students and, when appropriate and authorized, work collaboratively with paraprofessionals and volunteers under the direction of the host teacher. • Participate in school activities and professional responsibilities appropriate to the Student Teacher's placement. • Perform other related duties as assigned by the host teacher or building administration. Working Environment Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the ability to communicate effectively with students and adults and may require standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and other physical activities associated with the school environment. Working conditions may include exposure to varying temperatures and humidity, communicable diseases, and other typical school-related hazards. The position requires the ability to maintain appropriate professional and emotional control under stress and respond appropriately to student and school-related situations. Clearances
• Background Clearance • Any additional clearances or requirements required by Saydel Community School District or the applicable college/university preparation program Position Reports To Host Teacher and Building Principal The host teacher serves as the Student Teacher's primary day-to-day supervisor during the assigned placement. The Building Principal provides building-level supervision and oversight. The Student Teacher is also expected to maintain communication and comply with requirements established by the Student Teacher's college or university preparation program and assigned university supervisor. Qualifications
• Enrollment in an approved teacher preparation program at an accredited college or university. • Completion of all college or university requirements necessary for the assigned Student Teaching placement. • Ability to demonstrate professional conduct and maintain appropriate relationships and boundaries with students and staff. • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and administrators. • Ability to meet the expectations and requirements of the assigned college/university preparation program and Saydel Community School District.
