About this role
The Elementary General Education Associate provides flexible, building-wide support to students, teachers, administrators, and office staff in grades K4. This position assists with instructional activities, student supervision, classroom operations, student transitions, building routines, and general office and administrative functions to help ensure a safe, welcoming, and effective learning environment for all students. The General Education Associate works collaboratively with teachers, building administrators, office personnel, support staff, and students to respond to the changing needs of the building. The position requires flexibility, initiative, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and the ability to effectively transition between instructional, student-support, supervisory, and office responsibilities throughout the school day. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Student & Classroom Support
• Provide instructional and classroom support to teachers as directed. • Assist individual students or small groups of students with classroom activities, assignments, practice, organization, and other teacher-directed learning activities. • Reinforce academic skills and concepts under the direction of licensed instructional staff. • Support students in developing positive work habits, organization, independence, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. • Assist students with transitions between classrooms, activities, lunch, recess, transportation, and other school settings. • Provide additional classroom support when staffing needs or student needs arise. • Assist teachers with preparing instructional materials, organizing classroom resources, copying, filing, and other classroom-related tasks. • Support substitute teachers and classrooms as assigned. • Provide coverage for classrooms or student activities as directed by building administration and consistent with district procedures. Student Supervision & Building Support
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, arrival and dismissal areas, assemblies, field trips, and other school settings. • Monitor student behavior and interactions and reinforce school expectations and positive behavior. • Assist students in resolving minor conflicts and problems using appropriate school-based strategies. • Respond appropriately to student needs, concerns, and unexpected situations. • Assist with maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. • Support arrival and dismissal procedures, including student movement and supervision. • Assist with recess and lunch supervision as assigned. • Provide support during school-wide activities, special events, assemblies, and other building functions. • Assist students who require additional adult support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and encouraging independence. • Follow established procedures for responding to emergencies, student injuries, behavioral concerns, and other safety situations. Office & Administrative Support
• Provide general clerical and administrative assistance to the building office as assigned. • Answer phones, greet visitors, and provide courteous and professional assistance to students, staff, families, and community members. • Assist with receiving and directing visitors in accordance with building safety procedures. • Assist office staff with routine data entry, filing, copying, scanning, and organization of records and materials. • Assist with preparing correspondence, forms, labels, packets, instructional materials, and other documents. • Assist with student check-in and check-out procedures in accordance with building protocols. • Assist with student attendance-related tasks as directed by office personnel. • Assist with distributing and collecting forms, materials, notices, and other communications. • Assist with organizing and maintaining office, classroom, and building supplies. • Provide general logistical support to the building office and staff. • Use district technology systems and equipment to complete assigned administrative tasks. • Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, family, and district information encountered through office or building responsibilities. Building-Wide Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, office personnel, counselors, nurses, and other support staff. • Respond flexibly to changing building needs and priorities throughout the school day. • Move between classrooms, grade levels, and building areas as needed. • Assist where additional staff support is needed to maintain effective building operations. • Communicate relevant student, safety, behavioral, or operational concerns to the appropriate staff member. • Establish and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students and staff across the building. • Serve as a positive adult role model for all students. • Maintain a professional and supportive demeanor when working with students, families, and staff. • Participate in professional development, training, meetings, and other activities as requested or required. • Follow district policies, building procedures, safety practices, and directions provided by building administration. • Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION & RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent. • Ability to successfully complete required district training and professional development. • Ability to work effectively with elementary-age students. • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, families, and community members. Preferred:
• Previous experience working with elementary-age children. • Previous experience in an educational, childcare, office, customer service, or related setting. • Postsecondary coursework or training in education, child development, business administration, or a related field. • Experience providing clerical or administrative support. • Knowledge of basic instructional and classroom support practices appropriate for elementary-age students. • Ability to work effectively with students of varying academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs. • Ability to establish positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. • Ability to provide effective student supervision and reinforce school expectations. • Ability to remain calm, patient, flexible, and professional in a fast-paced school environment. • Ability to transition effectively between classroom, student supervision, and office responsibilities. • Ability to prioritize tasks and adjust priorities based on changing building needs. • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. • Ability to communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with students, staff, families, and visitors. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive student or district information. • Ability to perform routine clerical tasks, including filing, copying, scanning, data entry, and document preparation. • Ability to utilize district-approved technology, computer applications, communication systems, and office equipment. • Ability to recognize situations requiring assistance from a teacher, administrator, nurse, counselor, or other appropriate professional. • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency and crisis situations. • Ability to demonstrate initiative and identify ways to assist students, staff, and building operations without constant direction. • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance. • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to supporting the success of all students. Starting hourly rate $16.75
