About this role
The trainee will receive ongoing guidance, mentoring, and formal instruction from experienced immigration professionals. Training activities will include learning how to assess client eligibility for immigration pathways, understanding visa categories and application requirements, interpreting immigration legislation and policy updates, and developing the ability to conduct thorough case assessments. The trainee will gain hands-on experience in preparing and reviewing application forms, gathering and analysing supporting documentation, drafting case notes and correspondence, and maintaining compliant client records. By the end of the placement, the participant will have developed a strong foundation in immigration consultancy practice, gained practical experience across a range of immigration matters, and demonstrated the ability to support clients effectively through immigration processes while adhering to professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.. This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. The Immigration Consultant trainee will complete a structured 60-hour training programme, consisting of 20 hours of accredited or sector-recognised training and 40 hours of on-the-job/general training. The accredited training will include: • Introduction to Immigration Law and Practice (6 hours), Immigration Rules, Policy and Compliance (4 hours), • Professional Ethics and Client Care in Immigration Services (3 hours), • GDPR and Data Protection Compliance (3 hours), and Immigration Casework • Preparation and Evidence Assessment (4 hours), delivered by recognised immigration training providers or industry-recognised professional development organisations. The remaining 40 hours of on-the-job training will be delivered under the supervision of experienced immigration professionals and will include • Observing client consultations and eligibility assessments (8 hours), • Supervised case preparation and application support (10 hours), • Immigration law and policy research (6 hours), • Case management systems and file administration training (4 hours), • Participation in case review meetings and mentoring sessions (4 hours), • Compliance and quality assurance procedures (4 hours) and professional communication, client correspondence, and client care training (4 hours).
