An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Nursing Associate or Registered Nurse to join our clinical team. This role is ideal for either an established primary care professional or a clinician seeking to transition into general practice from secondary care, community nursing, or a care home environment.
While prior primary care experience is preferred, we place equal value on strong transferable clinical skills, enthusiasm, and a commitment to high standards of care. For the right candidate, we will provide a structured induction, full training, and ongoing one-to-one mentorship from our experienced Nurse Lead to help you develop your career in general practice.
Main duties of the job
Depending on your professional registration and clinical background, day-to-day duties include:
Performing essential clinical observations, health checks, venepuncture, and 12-lead ECGs
Administering routine adult immunisations, travel vaccines, and childhood vaccinations under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or Patient Specific Directions (PSDs) commensurate with your registration scope.
Performing cervical screening and routine women's health reviews.
Assisting with the routine monitoring and biometric reviews of patients with long-term conditions (including diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory conditions).
Providing practical health promotion, lifestyle advice, and self-management support to patients.
Utilising dedicated, protected administration time to manage electronic patient records, path results, referrals, and clinical follow-ups.

Job description Job responsibilities Job Purpose
To work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary primary care team to deliver safe, effective, evidence-based nursing care to our registered practice population. The post holder will manage routine, planned, and urgent clinical presentations commensurate with their professional registration, working under the guidance and clinical leadership of the Nurse Lead and GP Partners.
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Duties1. Clinical Care Delivery
Conduct routine health checks, measurements, and clinical observations (blood pressure, urinalysis, height/weight, BMI, peak flow).
Perform venous blood sampling (phlebotomy) and 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs) when requested by clinicians
Administer prescribed medications, routine adult immunisations, travel vaccinations, and childhood immunisations under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or Patient Specific Directions (PSDs) strictly according to qualifications and regulatory scope.
Perform cervical cytology screening and routine women's health checks
Assist with routine review, biometric recording, and ongoing monitoring for patients with chronic conditions (e.g., Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma, COPD).
Deliver proactive health promotion, lifestyle advice, and self-management guidance (e.g., smoking cessation, dietary advice).
2. Administration, Quality & Workflow
Maintain protected administration periods each week to manage clinical administration, pathology tracking, referrals, and patient queries.
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and comprehensive consultation records using the clinical system (EMIS Web) according to NMC standards.
Adhere strictly to cold-chain policies, vaccine storage procedures, and stock rotation requirements.
Maintain clean, compliant clinical consulting rooms and participate actively in practice Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) audits.
3. Communication & Team Working
Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, carers, and family members, adjusting approaches to overcome barriers to understanding.
Liaise seamlessly with general practitioners, reception staff, administrative coordinators, and allied health professionals across the primary care network (PCN).
Participate actively in multidisciplinary practice meetings, clinical debriefs, and internal educational tutorials.
4. Professional Development & Governance
Maintain active registration with the NMC and comply with all aspects of the NMC Code.
Engage actively with regular clinical supervision and annual appraisal led by the Nurse Lead.
Identify personal learning needs and complete all statutory, mandatory, and role-specific training.
Person Specification
Skills & Competencies Essential
Competent in phlebotomy and 12-lead ECG recording. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong IT literacy and record-keeping skills. Effective time management and workload prioritisation. Understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Desirable
Knowledge of primary care targets, QOF, and enhanced services.
Personal Attributes Essential
Passion for patient-centred primary care. Receptive to constructive feedback, clinical supervision, and mentoring. Resilient and adaptable within a busy, high-volume clinic setting. Collaborative team player with a calm, professional demeanour.

Interest in becoming a supervisor for future learners.
Experience Essential
Experience in acute, community, or primary care settings. Experience conducting holistic patient assessments, vital signs, and basic diagnostic tests.
Desirable
Direct experience working within NHS General Practice. Experience administering vaccines via PGD/PSD. Experience carrying out chronic disease reviews. Working knowledge of GP clinical systems (EMIS Web).
Qualifications Essential
Current NMC registration as a Nursing Associate OR Registered Nurse Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
Desirable
Recognised cervical cytology certification. Accredited training in childhood immunisations. Chronic disease management certifications (e.g., diabetes, asthma).
