An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic pharmacist to join Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Clinical Pharmacy Team Leader.
This senior role will provide professional leadership and work closely with pharmacy, medical, nursing, operational and corporate colleagues to support safe, effective medicines optimisation for patients.
You will lead a team of advanced clinical pharmacists and be supported by clinical pharmacy technicians and medicines optimisation assistants, to provide the best possible care to our patients.
You will work alongside our clinical lead pharmacists in Emergency Medicine, Education & Training, Medicines Governance and other specialities to drive forward the pharmacy service and implement new innovative ways of working.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be a visible pharmacy leader and role model with the accountability and responsibility for the provision and development of safe and cost-effective pharmacy services to the medical specialities.
Lead a team of highly skilled pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy staff working to deliver outstanding pharmacy services.
Support the further develop of the clinical pharmacy workforce including the role of Medicines Management Technicians and Medicines Optimisation Assistants.
Develop a strategic plan for the operational delivery of clinical pharmacy services to the medical specialities, supporting a positive patient experience, medicines optimisation, and continuous improvement.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
Provide leadership and strategic direction for Trust-wide clinical pharmacy, fostering a culture of continuous learning and ensuring that the service aligns with organisational and national priorities and makes a real difference to patient care.

CLINICAL
L Lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service in the specialist areas in line with departmental and patient needs, to ensure the delivery of a high quality, patient centred and effective clinical pharmacy service.
Contribute to the multidisciplinary identification, review and development and ratification of treatment guidelines and policies in the specialist area, to promote safe and evidence-based patient care.
Contribute effectively to patient care as part of the multidisciplinary team, by attending ward rounds or other appropriate meetings, to make pro-active interventions in individual patients therapy.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Contribute to the management and delivery of education and training aspects of pharmacy services and medicines optimisation in the Trust, in association with the Lead Pharmacist for Education & Training.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Contribute to research within the pharmacy department. This includes identifying areas of research, including identifying gaps in evidence, applying appropriate methods to address identified gaps and generating new evidence.
Share good practice by publications and presentations within the Trust, throughout the local health economy and nationally.
PROFESSIONAL
Create an inclusive environment and demonstrate cultural effectiveness.
Recognise and respect the role of others in the wider pharmacy and multi-disciplinary team.
Participate in late night, weekend, Bank Holiday and on call rota duties.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Significant post-registration experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. Training and/or significant experience in clinical teaching / tutoring, audit, practice research, risk management. Experience of leadership, supervision and management of teams. Experience in collaborative working with multidisciplinary teams or across organisational boundaries.
Desirable
Experience of working in a similar role.

Able to empathise with patients Accurate and concise written and oral communication skills Able to receive, summarise, communicate and present information to a wide range of professionals across the Trust. Proven persuasion and negotiation skills (to influence prescribing), tact and diplomacy skills. Effective independent and team working skills. Ability to analyse and interpret a wide range of clinical, financial, and managerial information. Proven problem-solving approach on a wide range of clinical issues, and able to think laterally to develop new ideas. Able to assess staff performance against agreed standards and criteria, and to provide feedback and development. Able to prioritise with consultation, plan and adjust current pharmacy services within the specialised area. Able to work independently and under guidance, within departmental, Trust and statutory and professional codes of practice / ethics. Able to work effectively in front of an audience. Able to demonstrate an awareness of and a commitment to the Clinical Governance Agenda. Able to concentrate for prolonged periods on occasion for prescription review, report writing. Knowledge Essential
Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality Evidence of continued professional development or equivalent knowledge through extensive experience. Broad knowledge of therapeutics. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the formulation, preparation, and therapeutic action of medicines.
Qualifications Essential
MPharm or equivalent. Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience. Independent Prescriber (Non-medical Prescriber) or working towards.
Desirable
Member of the Royal College of Pharmacy and / or the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association. MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent. Management qualification. Royal College of Pharmacy accreditation or working towards an advanced practice portfolio.
