Job SummaryThe VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Rehabilitation Technician - Domiciliary Assistant. The Rehabilitation Technician - Domiciliary Assistant will function within Social Work Service. Responsibilities include completing safety, security, and privacy inspections, documenting observations, and initiating corrective actions such as work orders.

If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state-issued Driver's License. -AND- You may qualify at the GS-5 level if you fulfill one of the following qualifications: -SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Rehabilitation Technician - Domiciliary Assistant, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. -OR- -EDUCATION: I have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects such as psychology, statistics, or other directly related subjects to the Rehabilitation Technician - Domiciliary Assistant position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR- -COMBINATION: I have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as listed above, to meet the total experience requirements. The education portion must include courses such as psychology, statistics, or other directly related subjects to the Rehabilitation Technician - Domiciliary Assistant position. Physical Requirements: The work is active and is performed in a Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). Normal precautions are required when working with Veterans that have different mental health and recovery issues to include homelessness. The position requires emotional ability to deal effectively with multitasking, and a steady flow of patient care responsibilities as well as administrative responsibilities. This position involves bending, lifting and the ability to carry up to 30 pounds. May transport Veterans for job searches, housing searches, or access to social services using government vehicles. Requires a valid driver's license and medical clearance. Assists residents with physical, mental, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Provides program orientation and processes check-ins upon return from pass. Ensures shift reports occur verbally and in writing. Manages storage, documentation, and the return of resident belongings. Coordinates with backup staff to ensure urgent tasks are completed. Provides coverage for absent colleagues. Documents team activities and ensure follow-up. Skill in written and oral communication, and the ability to interact in a positive manner with Veterans, medical staff, visitors and management. Ability to interact appropriately with Veterans who are demonstrating negative behaviors. Models appropriate behavior and treat all individuals respectfully. Completes entries in the communication log. Performs daily inspections of equipment, supplies, and safety/security conditions and initiates corrective actions including work orders or emergency repairs. Provides administrative support including preparing program materials such as handbooks, orientation packets, and discharge documents, and processing residents for admission and clearance. Responsibilities include completing safety, security, and privacy inspections, documenting observations, and initiating corrective actions such as work orders. Identifies or resolves resident concerns or refers to appropriate staff. Provides crisis intervention during medical, psychiatric, or behavioral emergencies, assessing situations promptly and securing appropriate care. Reports incidents and refers concerns to VA nursing or Charge Nursing depending on time of day. Performs other duties as assigned.
