Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes measuring, fitting, adjusting, or repairing orthotic devices; instructing patients on wear or care of orthotic devices; and/or documenting orthotic patient encounters.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Major DutiesReceives prescriptions from physicians for all types of orthotic braces and appliances ranging from simple arm and hand braces.Fabricates, modifies, and repairs other appliances such as arch supports, ankle braces, plaster of paris casts, back braces, assistive devices for polio patients, corsets and others.Uses various machines, tools and equipment, such as drill press, band saw, metal grinders, leather cutters, sewing machines, and hand tools, to perform functions.Fit, fabricate, design, modify and repair orthotic braces and appliances prescribed by physicians.Assists in requisitioning, storage and issue of supplies.
