The Opportunity
We are currently looking for self-directed, engaging, energetic Clinical Counsellor to join our CYAC Team. The Clinical Counsellor is responsible for providing assessment, treatment and/or support services to children and youth, as well as their family members, who have accessed the CYAC. Children and youth are connected to the CYAC due to allegations of child abuse or trauma. The CYAC Clinical Counsellor will serve as a member of the Circle of Care at the CYAC, supporting families during their involvement with the CYAC. Services are provided in office or on outreach.
JOB POSTING: 2026-0100 Clinical Counsellor DATE: September 21, 2026 POSITION: Clinical Counsellor HOURS OF WORK: Permanent, part-time (20 hours per week) SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 16P: $46.25- $52.68 Hourly (depending on education and experience) BENEFITS: Not eligible for extended benefits VACATION: As per ESS policies START DATE: ASAP CLOSING DATE: This posting will remain open until the position is filled Some Key Duties and Responsibilities • Develops and maintains supportive and positive working relationships with program participants to ensure they are supported to make connections with family and others, as well as other resources based on their needs and preferences, including such things as housing supports, health service referrals, substance use services, mental health supports, transitions planning, life skills supports, etc. • Provides clinical counselling and psychotherapy to children and youth, and their family members, who have been involved with the Langley CYAC. This may include short-term education and stabilization counselling, where indicated, and family counselling when indicated through the assessment process. Utilizes a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques and counselling modalities, including talk and play therapies. • Interviews participants and collateral sources, and uses assessment tools, to gather case history information. Assesses and documents thorough biological/physical, social and environmental or systemic, psychological, cultural/spiritual, emotional and/ behavioural issues affecting clients. • Provides case conceptualizations and identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counselling. • Develops, documents, and implements assessment reports, treatment plans and interventions. • Works in collaboration with those working with participant cases (child protection workers, police officers, CYAC advocate, victim services, medical professionals, probation officers, other organization staff, and professionals from community organizations) and to the broader community. • Assesses risk, develops written safety plans and critical incident reports, as needed, with the participants to manage safety and reduce the risk of further victimization by assessing, identifying, and addressing the participant’s immediate and emergency physical and emotional safety needs. • In collaboration with direct supervisor, promotes the program and organization within the community to build awareness of the program and to support referrals and access for participants who may benefit. • Maintains waitlist, monthly reporting and statistical requirements as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Education and Training • Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or a related field.
2. Knowledge and Experience • Two (2) years recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. • Specialization in trauma treatment through basic training, continuing education or clinical experience. • Specialization in family counselling through basic training, continuing education or clinical experience. • Direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based services and related provincial and community support service systems. • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant formal counselling, psychotherapy and assessment techniques. • Experience working with children and youth, preferably specific to clinical counselling. • Ongoing demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation and anti-oppressive practice.
3. Skills and Abilities • Proficient in comprehensive screening and assessment practices using established standardized measures and approaches. • Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills. • Solid organizational and time management skills. • Ability to maintain professional integrity and confidentiality. • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Victim Bill of Rights, Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act). • Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment, independently and as part of a team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines. • Ability to maintain professional integrity, boundaries, and confidentiality. • Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners.
4. Other Information • Must possess a valid BC class 5 Driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract review. (mileage paid for work use) • Must possess a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Software. • Police Information Check • Eligibility for registration with a professional counselling/social work body in BC. • Current First Aid certification required. • Evidence of training in Telehealth.
