Senior Electrical Engineer – Hardware Design
Location: Huntsville, AL Employment Type: Full-Time Clearance: Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one
Position Overview
Created Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support the development, integration, fabrication, and testing of advanced electronic hardware for defense applications. This position will focus primarily on printed circuit board (PCB) design and hardware development, supporting efforts from initial design modification and prototyping through fabrication, qualification testing, and field test activities.
The successful candidate will possess strong electrical engineering fundamentals, hands-on hardware development experience, and the ability to independently troubleshoot complex electronic systems. This role requires close collaboration with customers, engineering teams, and manufacturing partners in support of safety-critical hardware development.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Design and modify electronic hardware and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for defense applications.
• Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and design documentation.
• Develop, assemble, integrate, and debug hardware prototypes.
• Coordinate with contract manufacturers throughout PCB fabrication, component procurement, assembly, and production activities.
• Prepare and manage hardware build documentation, component kits, and technical requirements for manufacturing.
• Perform electrical checkout, troubleshooting, verification, and acceptance testing of completed hardware.
• Utilize laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, and related instrumentation, to characterize and troubleshoot hardware.
• Support hardware qualification and environmental test activities throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide engineering support for government range and live-fire test activities.
• Develop test equipment, fixtures, and hardware emulators as required to support system verification and validation.
• Maintain appropriate design documentation, configuration control, and traceability for safety-critical hardware.
• Conduct technical analyses, document test results, and develop engineering reports and briefings.
• Present design, test, and technical status to customers, engineering teams, and technical or safety review boards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams while independently managing assigned technical responsibilities.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience with an emphasis on hardware design and development.
• Demonstrated experience with printed circuit board design, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Experience supporting hardware through the design, prototype, fabrication, integration, debug, and test lifecycle.
• Experience coordinating with PCB fabricators, contract manufacturers, and component suppliers.
• Strong hands-on hardware troubleshooting and debugging capabilities.
• Proficiency with standard electrical laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, and digital multimeters.
• Ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, technical drawings, specifications, and test documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to support high-reliability or safety-critical hardware.
• Ability to work independently and effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to customers and technical review boards.
• Ability to work on-site with customers in Huntsville, AL, and support off-site test activities as required.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring
• Experience developing safety-critical electronic hardware.
• Experience with Electronic Safe and Arm Devices (ESADs), Ignition Safety Devices (ISDs), high-voltage firesets, or related energetic-system electronics.
• Experience supporting DoD weapon systems or other complex defense systems.
• Experience designing and developing test hardware, test fixtures, or hardware emulators.
• Proficiency with Altium Designer or comparable PCB design tools.
• Experience with embedded hardware development.
• Firmware and/or software development experience.
• Experience supporting environmental qualification and government range or live-fire testing.
• Hands-on soldering experience or applicable soldering certification.
