Job summary
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse in the Surgical Assessment Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital.
SAU is a 24 bedded ward caring for inpatients with a 6 bedded assessment/triage area, for assessment of emergency patients of referrals from the emergency, department, GP and other sources. In addition SAU staff work in the Surgical Same Day emergency care department, currently located opposite the SAU. SAU care for patients on multiple General Surgical, Urology and Vascular pathways. In addition the role involves carrying the surgical bleep phone, overseeing the SAU and the surgical wards as a whole.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated leader who wants to develop in their career. You will work alongside the existing ward team ensuring high standards of care are maintained.
The successful individual will assist the Ward Manager to provide effective and visible leadership and will be expected to drive the unit forward.
Applicants must hold a current NMC registration, and have demonstrable post registration experience with band 5 experience within a emergency Surgical Nursing setting.

The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, be dynamic and strive for excellence in all aspects of the role. They will need to act as a role model and maintain and uphold high standards of professional behaviour.
The successful applicant will take responsibility for the day to day ward environment. They will ensure that high standards of nursing care is provided and drive forward both service development and quality improvement . They will also be ensuring we promote patient safety and a positive patient experience.
