Job SummaryYou will serve as a INSULATOR LEADER in the PIPE SHOP (CODE 957), PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE * Ability to use and apply a variety of vapor sealing compounds and waterproof covers. * Planning, laying out, repairing, and modifying projects to ensure uniform finish and stability. * Instructing Insulators, Insulator Helpers, and Student Trainees (Insulator) on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shop trade skills. * Ability to use all the tools of the trade, and work from sketches and specifications of the finished product to be obtained. * Reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and project plans to identify the dimensional characteristics of the surfaces, curves, angles, and slopes to be covered. Major DutiesYou will be responsible to the supervisor for assuring that work assignments to a group of employees are carried out.You will report to the supervisor on the status and progress of work and cause of work delays.You will work along other employees, set the pace of work of the group, and perform all other typical work of an Insulator.You will be assigned as a Training Leader in the Shop to share your knowledge, skills, and abilities.
