Job SummaryThis position is located in a Regional Office of the Forest Service within Region 5. The position serves as and Assistant Director to the Director of Fire and Aviation Management (FAM). The incombent has the responsibility for specific programs and tasks in the Corporate Fire Program. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-6 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: met established timelines and schedules to ensure courses are prepared in advance and delivered on time; assisted in purchasing and stocking of course materials, classroom set-up, and course closeout activities for each course; drafted written reports, statistics, and correspondence; and assisted in performing periodic review of student records to ensure accuracy and completeness. OR One full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example - Teaching, Education, Business Management, Public Administration). OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level. Specialized Experience is defined as two or more of the following: assisted in reviewing and analyzing student needs, based on review of records, and provided recommendations in accordance with established criteria; assisted in determining basic eligibility for students enrolling in training courses; assists in maintaining course and student records in the agency database; and assisted in conducting inventories and determined replenishment levels for training supplies and materials and ensured funding limitation is observed. OR One full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example - Teaching, Education, Business Management, Public Administration). OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Major DutiesDuties listed are at the full performance level GS-07Assist in preparing correspondence relating to grants, agreements, memorandums of understanding and/or contracts between the agency and outside sources.Assist in performing periodic review of records to ensure accuracy and completeness.Perform non-routine functions such as preparation of reports using database and spreadsheet software, desktop publishing, and troubleshooting.Perform a variety of administrative functions utilizing standard office equipment.Assist in analyzing student needs, to provide recommendations in accordance with established criteria.Assist in conducting inventories to determine replenishment levels of training supplies and materials.Conduct fact-finding duties by searching files to find, organize and report on relevant informationUtilize initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems and unfamiliar situations nor covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help.Plan and/or carry out successive steps and handle problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices in the occupation.Supervise students and volunteers in purchasing and stocking of course materials, classroom set-up, and course closeout activities for each course.RequirementsMust be a U.S. Citizen or National.
