If plaque is present in the mouth for a longer period of time, it will harden and tartar will be formed. Good oral hygiene is important to prevent inflammation of the gums. Good oral hygiene consists of proper brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and keeping the spaces between the teeth clean at least once a day by using toothpicks and/or dental floss.
