A hallmark of USP's standards is that they are determined by independent scientific experts. USP Expert Volunteers are selected based on their individual expertise and experience and use their best personal, professional, and scientific judgment to work collaboratively on setting standards. USP Expert Volunteers must agree to disclose conflicts of interest and to uphold standards of conduct that preserve the integrity of the standard setting process.

2025-2030 Focus Area:

The purpose of this Expert Panel is to develop, validate, and recommend specifications, analytical tests and related scientific documents relevant to USP for high value food oils. This work will support the development of new, and modernization of current, FCC monograph(s), FCC identity standard(s), and/or General Test(s) and Assay(s). This EP may also support the development of USP reference standards (RS) and other analytical materials that will be designed to help users determine the authenticity (including purity) and quality of high value food oils sold internationally for use in foods.

2025-2030 KEY ISSUES

• Authenticity and adulteration: Address mislabeling, substitution, and quality risks in high-value oils.

• Analytical method gaps: Identify, develop, and validate fit-for-purpose methods for oil identity, purity, quality, and authenticity testing.

• Reference materials needs: Assess needs for USP reference standards and other analytical materials to support reliable testing and implementation.

• FCC standards modernization: Develop or update FCC monographs, identity standards, and General Tests and Assays for priority high-value food oils.

• External alignment: Review other standards and regulatory landscapes to identify synergies and support globally relevant FCC standards.

• Stakeholder adoption: Support outreach, publications, and implementation tools to promote use of proposed standards.

Required Expertise:

Food oil chemistry, processing, quality, and authenticity; OR Analytical method development, validation, and reference materials; OR Food oil standards, specifications, and regulatory/scientific evaluation.
