About this role
• Co-facilitate STEM service-learning projects that are relevant to the lives and communities in which KAYSC youth live.
• Co-facilitate group discussions related to cultural identity.
• Supervise youth on field trips and other events that excite and enhance youth learning.
• Support youth with outreach opportunities, which allow them to strengthen their learning by teaching others.
• Learn and demonstrate an understanding of the KAYSC mission, target population, and youth development best practices.
• Support planning and preparation of middle school programming projects, curriculum, and activities.
• Create and design, independently or with partners, lesson plans focused on STEM justice.
• Sign up and attend STEM education, youth development, and service learning trainings that support the work of the middle school program.
• Recruit and retain middle school youth for STEM service learning opportunities by presenting at homerooms, tabling during lunch or events, etc. with a focus on girls, youth of color, and youth from low-income families.
• Build relationships with appropriate school staff as the first point of contact for KAYSC programming.
• Develop authentic relationships with both youth and their parent/guardian that include clear and consistent communication regarding both the youth and parent/guardian's experience and expectations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
