The IT Server Administrator position is responsible for the day-to-day operational support of server and cloud-based technology solutions to ensure the Department's needs are understood, documented, forecasted, and realized. This role is the first point of contact for many server and systems related issues and is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues of high complexity in a professional and timely manner and in line with internal policies and procedures and industry best practices.

• Manage servers and their operating systems and software.
• Assist in building and deploying server and cloud-based technology solutions.
• Identify areas to automate and develop solutions to streamline routine tasks.
• Monitor and analyze alerts from end-point security systems, application and system availability monitoring packages, and enterprise systems management tools. Remediate or escalate critical issues when appropriate.
• Create and maintain technical documentation in accordance with best practices and internal standards.
• Administer end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
• Perform system backups and restores.
• Respond to off-hours and unanticipated outages.
• Work closely with third-party support, vendors, and internal teams in order to resolve issues impacting Department systems and services.
• Participate in or lead team and committee meetings with vendors, staff, and end-users to help ensure the success of complex projects.
• Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures.
• Research and recommend products needed to support enterprise operations in accordance with Department purchasing regulations and statutes.
• Assist in developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plans, and respond to emergency outages in accordance with the plans.
Minimum Requirements
Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field plus server administration experience; OR the educational equivalent to a high school diploma plus four years of server administration experience. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Demonstrated experience in a Microsoft enterprise server environment, including Windows Server 2012 and 2016.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell, DHCP, DNS, enterprise storage administration, virtualization platforms (Hyper-V/VMWare), backup and recovery, disaster recovery, highly available/fault tolerant system design, and IT industry best practices strongly preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated technical documentation ability. Well-developed sense of urgency and follow-through.
Working conditions: Office environment. Ability to work after-hours and on-call for routine and emergency maintenance.
Licenses, registrations and certifications: Relevant professional certifications such as MCSA/MCSE, ITIL, etc. preferred.
