Position Summary

ASEBP is looking for an experienced Supervisor, Communication Services to join our dynamic team in Edmonton. The successful candidate will be an experienced communications professional who has a minimum of three years in progressive leadership experience. Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Marketing Services, the supervisor will support the communications team in ensuring high-quality, strategic and consistent campaigns across the organization. The supervisor will support with onboarding, mentorship, and alignment with policies, processes, and department and organization goals. This position also provides coverage for the Manager, Communications and Marketing Services, as required.

Your Key Responsibilities

Provide day to day leadership, supervision, and performance management within the communications team.

• Supervise the communications team in a manner consistent with ASEBP's strategic direction and pursuit of operational excellence.

• Provide regular coaching and mentoring to employees, ensuring they receive timely feedback to maximize their performance.

• In conjunction with the manager, conduct performance reviews in accordance with ASEBP's performance review process.

• In conjunction with the manager, participate in recruitment, orientation, and training of new employees.

• Provide ongoing training and feedback to team members regarding organizational policies, team processes, and safety protocols.

• Proactively monitor workloads to ensure appropriate resourcing to support the needs of client areas.

• Encourage staff professional development, goal setting and career progression, and identify relevant opportunities.

• In conjunction with the manager and human resources, address performance and conduct issues.

Assist in the oversight of day to day operations.

• Act as a subject matter expert on communications industry best practices, ASEBP's governance structure, and the education sector.

• Facilitate peer support reviews of communication products and materials to ensure consistency and quality before approval.

• Ensure that all communication strategies align with ASEBP's strategic priorities.

• Monitor and assess stakeholder communications including Government of Alberta education and health sector news releases, announcements, and media coverage.

• Track and analyze the performance of communication strategies and initiatives to inform decision-making.

Collaborate and provide communications support and expertise throughout the organization.

• Work with department leadership to ensure appropriate communications support for projects and initiatives.

• Provide strategic advice and guidance to leadership on communication-related matters.

• Collaborate with the Manager, Communication and Marketing Services to facilitate creativity and innovation, ensuring continuous improvement in communication efforts.

Your Education and Experience

• A university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.

• Five to ten years of related experience, including three years of experience in leading teams and supervising others.

• Membership with IABC or CPRS and/or IAP2 is an asset.

• Experience in a health, insurance and/or benefits administration environment is an asset.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and mentor team members, including setting goals, providing direction and feedback, and fostering a collaborative environment.

• Ability to lead through organizational changes and help the team adapt to new processes, procedures, and policies.

• Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to meet projected timelines.

• Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information in a responsible manner.

• Ability to exercise initiative, discretion, and sound judgement in making decisions that align with the organization's goals and values.

• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

• Excellent proofreading, writing and copy-editing skills.

• Ability to organize workflow and priorities to meet the needs of a variety of clients.

• Ability to effectively handle a multitude of tasks.

• The desire to work in a strong team environment to achieve organizational goals, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
