Technician II
Job Summary: General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
General Atomics Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) division designs, manufactures and characterized first-of-a-kind precision components in support of the national labs, fusion and science technologies. Components are manufactured and measured on a variety of highly-specialized and precise equipment and are often millimeter in scale with micron-sized features and tolerances.
We currently have an opening for a junior Technician in our Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) division within the Energy group. This position will be based in San Diego, California, at GA's Torrey Pines campus. We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspection and Metrology Technician to inspect, clean, measure, document, and package manufactured parts. This position will use a variety of precision measurements and optical inspection equipment to verify that parts meet established requirements.
The successful candidate will be willing to learn, able to identify and understand problems, and comfortable working collaboratively with multiple team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of parts in accordance with drawings, specifications, procedures, and work instructions. • Clean and handle parts carefully to prevent damage or contamination. • Operate precision measurement and optical inspection equipment. • Accurately record inspection results and maintain required documentation. • Identify and communicate problems or unusual conditions to the appropriate team members. • Package inspected parts according to established handling, protection, labeling, and packaging requirements. • Collaborate effectively with technicians, engineers, and other team members. • Handle hazardous and radiological materials in accordance with applicable safety procedures and requirements. • Follow safety protocols established by federal and state regulations and General Atomics procedures. • Work routinely in a cleanroom environment while wearing required cleanroom attire. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. • Perform other duties as assigned or required within IFT.

Job Qualifications: • Typically requires high school diploma or equivalent with one or more years of experience. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. • Ability to read and follow written procedures, work instructions, and basic engineering drawings. • Ability to accurately document inspection results. • Effective verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple team members. • Willingness and ability to learn new measurement equipment, inspection methods, and processes. • Ability to recognize problems, ask questions, and work with others to understand potential causes. • Basic computer skills. • Ability to follow clean room protocols. • Able to work in a cleanroom lab environment requiring extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting to 50 lbs. • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance as needed.
Preferred Qualifications: • Previous experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, or a related technical field. • Experience using optical inspection systems, laser micrometers, measuring microscopes, or other dimensional measurement equipment. • Familiarity with basic dimensional measurement concepts and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). • Experience with inspection documentation, nonconformance reporting, or quality management systems.
