MAIN FUNCTION: The Food PD&A Senior Technician will have the general responsibility of lab functions for the Food CD&D team by preparing customer samples and carrying out benchtop experiments at the direction of a Scientist. This position will provide support for the Scientists to execute proactive and reactive customer projects and support formula commercialization activities while ensuring laboratory activities meet or exceed technical, safety and efficiency goals.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: • BS Degree (Food Science or related) or High School Diploma or Associate Degree, with 5+ years’ experience. • Basic Scientific and Mathematical Skills – comfortable with basic calculations, ratio scaling, fraction portioning, percentage calculations, common scientific terminology, basic chemistry terms and concepts as well as basic food science principles. • Analytical Skills – competent with basic instrumentation and methods such as pH meters, titrations, balances, stir plates. • Organization and Detail Oriented - able to prioritize multiple assignments, work independently and meet established deadlines. • Strong Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills – a team player who wants to contribute to a thriving culture with excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Problem-Solving Skills – capable of root-cause identification, considering alternative solutions and providing recommendations and solutions to Scientists and Managers. • Creative thinker – consider multiple options and viewpoints when making decisions. • Computer Skills – comfortable with computer usage with standard office software. • Equipment Operation – comfortable operating lab and pilot plant equipment with training. • Preferred experience working with protein and sports nutrition supplements. DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED: • Batch, screen ingredients and execute minor formulation changes with supervision of the Scientist; update formulas accordingly in the formula database. • Generate data for customer demo sheets and prepare sample shipments. • Perform and interpret basic analytical testing and record results in project file. • Understand and perform basic math conversions. • Operates lab and pilot plant equipment. • Communicates effectively in both verbal and written forms. • Maintain lab safety, organization and cleanliness; take personal responsibility to engage in plant and food safety practices to prevent hazards that cause foodborne illness or injury and provide a clean, safe work environment. • Monitor and order stock of ingredients for use in sampling; correctly store all products to ensure product integrity and maintain good workspace environment. • Perform other related duties and assignments as required. : Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
