Job Description: In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program.
The Business Operations Intern supports the Tactical Solutions (TS) Business Operations team in driving the operational effectiveness of the hardware development product line. Working alongside the Operations Specialist and other cross-functional partners, the intern contributes to resource planning, data analytics, staffing support, and business process improvement. This role provides hands-on experience within a fast-paced aerospace/defense environment and exposure to functional areas including Program Execution, Finance, Engineering, Facilities, and Security.
The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.
What You’ll Do: • Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing resource utilization data (labor, facilities, overhead trends, staffing pipelines). • Support analysis of staffing gaps, incoming program needs, and hiring progress. • Partner with Operations Specialist to prepare materials for staffing discussions with Product Line, SBU, and SCU leaders. • Assist in data gathering and formatting for capital planning cycles (multi‑year capital requests, tracking of approvals). • Help review overhead data, organize summaries, and support monthly business rhythm activities (financial reviews, utilization summaries). • Support updates to internal workflows, SharePoint sites, communication tools, and process documentation. • Prepare draft communications, summaries, and visual content for Teams, email, SharePoint, and leadership reviews. • Work cross-functionally to maintain positive working relationships within TS and broader SMS organizations. • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. • Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Hourly Rate: $23.25 - $30.75
Required Skills and Education: • Must have completed your sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2027. We will also accept students enrolled in a graduate degree program. • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education. • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Data Analytics, Operations Management, or related field. • Excellent analytical skills and comfort working with data. • Experience with Excel; familiarity with PowerBI and SharePoint is a plus. • Clear written and verbal communication. • Ability to work collaboratively, manage multiple tasks, and maintain a positive, proactive attitude. #LI-HC1
