Job summary

Hope House Childrens Hospices have an opportunity for a Payroll and Finance Officer to join our team based in Oswestry. You will join us on a Full time 37.5 hours, permanent basis. In return, as Payroll and Finance Officer you will receive a competitive salary of £32,123 £36,360 per annum depending on experience.

About the Payroll and Finance Officer role

The Payroll and Finance Officer is responsible for the full end to end payroll cycle for approximately 300 employees, ensuring accurate processing and record keeping, timely payments, and the fulfilment of all policy, procedural, reporting and regulatory requirements.

Additionally, the postholder works with colleagues in the Finance team to ensure effective finance administration and management of the purchase ledger. This includes monitoring the Accounts email inbox, processing payments, bank reconciliation, petty cash management, and reporting.

Job description Job responsibilities

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this varied role combines responsibility for all aspects of payroll processing with supporting finance administration, especially regarding the purchase ledger. The Payroll and Finance Officer is responsible for the full end-to-end payroll cycle for approximately 300 employees, ensuring accurate processing and record keeping, timely payments, and the fulfilment of all policy, procedural, reporting and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the postholder works with colleagues in the Finance team to ensure effective finance administration and management of the purchase ledger. This includes monitoring the Accounts email inbox, processing payments, bank reconciliation, petty cash management, and reporting. Success requires the postholder to work both on their own initiative, and collaboratively with colleagues inside and outside the Finance team. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving payroll and pension regulations and best practice is key, as is the ability to provide accurate, timely and relevant insight and analysis

Person Specification

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of payroll from prior experience including PAYE/NIC, workplace pensions, statutory sick and maternity payments, P60s, P11Ds, P45s etc. Up to date knowledge of payroll legislation. Knowledge of accounting and payroll software Principles of accounting, inc. profit & loss, balance sheets and cash flow Understanding of nominal codes, journals, and double entry

Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) or equivalent qualification or professional experience. Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) or equivalent qualification or professional experience.
