Job summary

If so, we are looking for passionate, creative, motivated and patient focused pharmacists to join our team. UHL comprises three acute teaching hospitals and is one of the largest Trusts in the country, serving over million residents of Leicestershire and Rutland and providing tertiary services on a national level.

In your role you will utilise your clinical experience by providing daily clinical pharmacy services to specified wards, associated areas, assisting with the training and development of others and supporting the improvement of pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

- To participate in the delivery of optimum pharmaceutical care to patients served by the clinical directorate on specified ward(s) / clinics and deliver a level of clinical input commensurate with the grade.

- Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.

- Actively pursue audit, research and development within the CMG and the department. Publicise the results of such work through presentations and publications.

- Assist with the training and development of staff

Job description Job responsibilities

Emergency and Specialist Medicine (ESM)

You will be working within the multidisciplinary team (LRI & LGH) where you will provide a pharmacy services to a variety of clinical areas including Acute Medicine, Neurology, Stroke, Geriatrics, Diabetes, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, Dermatology and Medical Day Case.

Opportunity to work with many specialties to further develop and lead on local initiatives such as flow and improving discharge processes.

The University Hospitals of Leicester has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country. Our acute medicine department also has a large Acute Medical Unit, an Acute Ambulatory Care service, a Short Stay Unit, an Acute Care Medical HDU and 2 Acute Frailty Units; which incorporates specialist frailty services.

Education and Training responsibilities:

To assist in the induction planning and oversight for new trainee and foundation pharmacists. This will include updating induction rotas, completion of induction checklists and the planning of competency assessments. Provide ongoing and diploma support for foundation pharmacists (ward assessments, case based discussions, presentations). To assist in the planning, delivery and quality assurance of University placement programmes and other training sessions deemed appropriate. Both roles will be expected to provide adhoc support within the E&T team and will include line management responsibilities and providing support for the line managers of staff in training posts Womens & Children

Opportunity to work in the following expert areas:

Neonatology (Based at the LRI and LGH) Obstetric and gynaecology services across the LRI and the LGH General and specialist paediatric services at the LRI including Medicine, Surgery, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, parenteral nutrition and neurology Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Cardiology, intensive care and ECMO MSSUGGs

Musculoskeletal/Specialist Surgery/Urology, Gastroenterology and General Surgery/HPB

This team is based across the LRI, LGH and the Glenfield

Trauma, Orthopaedics and Ortho-geriatrics Specialist Surgery (ENT, Plastic,oral and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology) Gastro-enterology Colorectal, GI and General Surgery (inc bariatrics) Urology Hepato-Pancreato-Biliar MSSUGGS (0.6 WTE)/Antimicrobials (0.4 WTE).

The postholder will provide clinical pharmacy input within MSSUGGS supporting safe, effective and patientcentered use of medicines for patients with a range of acute and chronic conditions.

The postholder will also be part of the antimicrobial team focusing on antimicrobial stewardship, contributing to the delivery of highquality antimicrobial pharmacy services, supporting appropriate prescribing, infection management and optimisation of antimicrobial use across the Trust.

This post offers a unique opportunity to develop skills across both specialist clinical pharmacy practice and antimicrobial stewardship, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver highquality, evidencebased care. The role is essential to maintaining safe clinical services within both MSSUGGS and antimicrobial services. Antimicrobial Pharmacy Service (2 days per week on Monday and Tuesday) and MSSUGGS (3 days per week on Wednesday to Friday).

Post holder will be expected to contribute towards evening, on-call, bank holiday and weekend rotas.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications Essential

Master's degree (or equivalent) in pharmacy Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council Post-graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy practice or evidence of equivalent clinical experience Working towards completion of a Post graduate Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy/ Pharmacy practice

Desirable

Evidence of leadership training and skills particularly change management Registered Independent Prescriber Membership of a professional body e.g. MRPharmS or UKCPA or equivalent specialist group Evidence of Practice Research projects undertaken Registered Independent Prescriber

Knowledge Essential

Sound current clinical knowledge Evidence of post registration commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable

Awareness of National Issues Clinical Governance Knowledge of patients own drug (POD) and self medication schemes Evidence of teaching undergraduates, post- graduates, doctors, nurses, pharmacists Communication skills at level sufficient to be able to undertake commitment

Experience Essential

Approaching 2 years (minimum) post-registration experience in pharmacy practice with relevant clinical experience
