We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprentice (Band 3) on a two-year fixed-term apprenticeship programme.

This is an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining valuable workplace experience whilst studying towards an approved Pharmacy Technician qualification. Working alongside pharmacists and experienced pharmacy technicians, you will support the safe supply and management of medicines across our mental health and learning disability services.

Applicants must have GCSE English, Mathematics and Science at Grade 4/C or above, plus three additional GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).

We are looking for individuals who are organised, reliable, keen to learn and committed to delivering high-quality care. Strong communication, teamwork and attention to detail are essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a structured two-year Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship whilst working as part of the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team. Under the supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, you will support the safe supply and management of medicines, assist with dispensing and stock control activities, develop medicines optimisation skills and maintain accurate pharmacy records. You will rotate through different areas of the pharmacy service, complete workplace competency assessments and academic learning, and contribute to audits and service improvement initiatives. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician

Job description Job responsibilities

Assist in the provision of safe, efficient and effective pharmacy services under supervision. Learn how to interpret, dispense and supply medicines in accordance with departmental procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Assist with the supply of medicines to inpatient and community services. Assist with dispensing and controlled drug processes under supervision and in accordance with legal requirements. Assist with medicines distribution and stock replenishment services. Assist in maintaining pharmacy stock levels and identifying stock shortages. Assist with receipt, storage and distribution of pharmaceutical stock. Participate in stock rotation and expiry date checking. Assist in the safe disposal of waste medicines in accordance with local policies and procedures. Maintain a clean, safe and organised pharmacy environment. Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with medicines reconciliation activities following appropriate training and competency assessment. Assist with obtaining medication histories from available sources under supervision. Assist with assessing patients' own medicines under supervision. Participate in ward-based medicines management activities appropriate to the stage of training achieved

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE's: Math's, English and Science (at level 4/C or higher/A-C) and 3 other subjects at a minimum of grade 4/C

Desirable

BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent

Experience Essential

Experience of working as a member of a team Experience of working to deadlines Experience of using IT packages such as Microsoft Office/365
