Job summary
You will ideally have experience of working with children, adolescents and/or adults with complex trauma, with these needs potentially being expressed through a range of challenges, from an adopted child struggling to emotionally regulate themselves, to an adult with a chronic physical condition having to navigate lifelong health complications and services therein, to those engaging with or at risk of serious youth violence. You must have a good understanding of trauma, its impact and associated models of psychological intervention. The work will be varied and can be complex and challenging. Our small and friendly team support each other, and like everyone at Phoenix, we bring passion, commitment, and integrity to our work. The post will be working across a range of contracts many of which require working directly in, alongside and in partnership with a range of statutory and third sector organisations which does mean willingness to travel across the region is essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide qualified psychology input to children, families, adults and services across Phoenix Psychology contracts - working with complexity and trauma.
To provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals, family groups and / or professional networks, with a focus on relevant approaches (e.g. ACT, CFT, TF-CBT, EMDR, DDP, SFT).
To offer specialist trauma focused assessments for individuals with complex presentations.
To offer advice and consultation on psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers.
To offer specialised training, consultation and developmental opportunities to professional and non professional audiences.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within services provided by Phoenix Psychology.
The post will be working across a range of contracts some of which require working directly in, alongside and in partnership with a range of statutory and third sector organisations therefore we are looking for someone who will be invested in carrying out meaningful work to genuinely support our community; someone driven to develop psychological mindedness in organisations to enable them to support themselves and their clients; someone able to plan, put together and carry out bespoke packages of work and see them through to their conclusion.

Hours: up to 37.5 hours in person / hybrid
Contract Type: Permanent - 3 month probation
Base: Honiley, Kenilworth / Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield
Within the service, we deliver a range of trauma focussed interventions, these include TF-CBT, CFT, ACT and EMDR alongside Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Practice (DDP). Thus experience in at least one of these modalities is essential and we invest in additional training for our team members to support development. You will receive regular supervision via our experienced team, alongside specialist External Consultants for EMDR and DDP if applicable. Phoenix Psychology delivers interventions directly, via 1:1, family and group alongside indirectly through consultations and through systems. Therefore experience across these various delivery methods would be desirable. We would welcome someone with experience of complex assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions.
Full or part time hours can be considered. This is an entry level role, suitable for someone recently qualified, with the potential for progression into more senior roles over time.
Working Environment
You will provide psychology services across contracts serviced by Phoenix. You will be expected to work in locations including both of our clinic bases and in the community. This is an in-person role in line with our service model and the needs of complex client presentations. There are some elements of hybrid working depending upon personal circumstances and contract requirements.

Key Results Area
Clinical
To provide specialist psychological assessments referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with individuals, family members and others involved in their care.
To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological intervention and/or management of an individuals needs, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of their problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of settings.
To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for all aspects of case management including assessment, intervention and endings alongside ethical and transparent recording of information and communication with all relevant stakeholders.
To provide specialist psychological advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to an individuals formulation and intervention plan.
To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all individuals within the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group, including Court proceedings.
To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and intervention plans of individuals under your care and to monitor progress during any involvement.
To ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the individual, carers, family members and professionals of diverse community backgrounds and non discriminatory in nature.

Teaching, training, and supervision
To receive regular clinical professional supervision from a principle / consultant clinical psychologist and, where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues.
To gain additional highly specialist experience and skills relevant to clinical psychology and/or the service as agreed with the Director.
To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with individuals, carers and their families across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate.
Service development
To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the teams operation and provision of services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
To advise both your supervisor and Director on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
To support the principle / consultant clinical psychologist in establishing new protocols and procedures as changing service demands require.
Research and service evaluation
To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based practice in all areas of work.
To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other professionals as required.
To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision as required.
Information Management
To input and maintain, appropriate computer and manual information systems, complying with all organisational, data protection and information management requirements.
General
To maintain HCPC registration and comply with all professional and ethical standards therein.
To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development opportunities.
To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self governance in accordance with professional proficiency and standards set by the HCPC and organisational policies and procedures.
To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to our specific client groups and mental health.

Experience Essential
Experience of psychological assessment and intervention across the lifespan. Experience of working with wide variety of clients, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity incl maintaining a high degree of professionalism in face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse. Experience of presenting complex formulations in trauma informed way to other professionals to ensure consistency and compassionate support for the individual.
Desirable
Experience of teaching and/or training to other professionals for those with complex presentations. Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of engaging and working directly and indirectly with complex trauma presentations. Experience in facilitating group programmes. Experience of working with clients connected to the criminal justice system and/or looked after.
Other Essential
Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. Knowledge & Skills Essential
Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Knowledge of developmental trauma and impact of childhood abuse over a lifetime and relevant assessment, consultative and intervention approaches. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to individuals, their families, carers and other professional colleagues. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within clinical psychology.
Desirable
High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies relevant to trauma, e.g. CFT, TI-CBT, ACT, DDP, EMDR. Skills in communicating complex issues in writing to legal / quasi-legal arenas. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups in the context of trauma.
Qualifications Essential
