Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 3 Nursing Support Worker to join our team on Admissions Unit based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
We are a 14 bedded adult assessment and treatment ward providing person centred care for people suffering with mental health problems.
The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the qualified to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained across the unit, and be expected to demonstrate a genuine interest in this field of nursing, displaying excellent people skills such as communication. They will be expected to work as part of a team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality person-centred patient care.
Staff working within this environment are afforded the opportunity to experience diverse mental illnesses which effect those of working age.
Main duties of the job
Duties include :
Works as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients/service users experiencing mental health needs in the community/home setting or inpatient services, with support and supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional Undertakes or supports personal care activities, daily living skills/tasks and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation. Supports the enhanced observation of patients who present as a high risk to themselves or others due to a mental health, cognitive or clinical condition Ensures the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/client's condition and progress Ensures the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes. Contributes to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff Delivers role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSW's in Wales including maintaining physical, procedural and relational securit

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. Knowledge Essential
Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW). Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Experience Essential
Experience of working within a mental health environment in heath or social care, providing direct patient care
Desirable
Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
Skills Essential
Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach. Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, implementing restraint (if required) and performing other manual tasks. Ability to use technology to undertake the role, for example Microsoft Office, virtual platforms such TEAMS. Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload efficiently.
Qualifications Essential
Have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent competence gained through experience and supervision Ability to be able to complete certified /accredited physical intervention training, for example Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) during induction.
