About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Site Assistant to support the safe, secure and efficient operation of the Larwood School site. The successful candidate will assist with general caretaking, maintenance and health and safety duties to ensure a clean, safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Working closely with the Site Manager, Headteacher and wider Trust site team, you will play a vital role in maintaining school buildings and grounds to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Caretaking & General MaintenanceCarry out general maintenance and DIY tasks, including minor repairs, painting and furniture replacementAssist in identifying and prioritising maintenance works across the school siteUndertake planned and reactive maintenance tasks in liaison with the Site ManagerClear blockages, clean drains, gullies and grease traps, and respond to spillagesEnsure school buildings and grounds are clean, safe and litter-freeSupport the wider Trust site team as requiredSite Safety & Security

Ensure site security, including windows, doors and alarm systemsMaintain safe access during adverse weather, including snow clearing and grittingRemain vigilant to pupil safety and safeguarding at all timesHealth & Safety

Identify, report and manage health and safety risksTake immediate action to make hazards safeComply with Trust and school policies, procedures and statutory requirementsFacilities Support

Receive deliveries and transport items around the sitePrepare rooms and halls for meetings and events, returning them to original layoutsAfter School Lettings

Support after-school lettings by preparing and securing hired areasEmergencies & Contractors

Assist with emergency and contingency proceduresSupport and liaise with contractors, ensuring permits and documentation are in placeGeneral Duties

Participate in appraisal and professional developmentCarry out duties appropriate to the grade as directedWork across other Trust sites when requiredPerson Specification

Experience & Skills

Experience working in a school or similar environmentProven ability in site maintenance and DIY tasksAble to work independently and use initiativeFlexible and adaptable to changing prioritiesGood time management skillsAbility to remain calm under pressurePhysically able to move and carry furniture and equipmentEssential

Full UK driving licence

We were judged as ‘good’ by Ofsted in all areas during inspection in November 2022 and 'outstanding' for Behaviour. We became an academy school in Nov 2016 and are the lead school in a 2-school multi academy trust. We also provide outreach support for primary schools within Stevenage, focusing on behaviour management support strategies.
