The School of Nursing and Allied Health (SoNAH) at Birmingham Newman University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing to join our growing academic team on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term basis.
As our portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate pre-registration nursing programmes continues to develop, we are expanding our academic team to support programme delivery, maintain our commitment to an outstanding student experience, and contribute to the ongoing development of an ambitious and innovative nursing portfolio. The successful post holder will play an important role in the delivery, development and enhancement of Mental Health Nursing education, working collaboratively with colleagues across Nursing and Allied Health to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.
We welcome applications from experienced nurse academics and registered Mental Health Nurses who are interested in developing their careers within higher education. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, assessment, simulation-based education, academic support, curriculum development, practice learning and partnership working with employers and placement providers. The role will include supporting students in both university and practice learning environments and contributing to the wider academic activities of the School. This reflects the existing role profile, which places particular emphasis on undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education, clinical skills, simulation and support for pre-registration nursing students.
Applicants should hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Mental Health Nurse, with no restrictions on their practice, and demonstrate a clear commitment to maintaining their professional registration and continuing professional development. Candidates should possess contemporary knowledge of Mental Health Nursing practice and education and demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where diversity is celebrated and all students are supported to succeed.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who hold dual NMC registration in Mental Health Nursing and either Adult Nursing or Children’s Nursing. Candidates with dual registration should be able to demonstrate how their professional knowledge, clinical experience and field-specific expertise can contribute to pre-registration Mental Health Nursing education and, where appropriate, support teaching and interprofessional learning across the wider pre-registration nursing portfolio.
Applicants should hold a relevant degree and will need to demonstrate that they hold a recognised teaching qualification or Fellowship of Advance HE, or that they are willing to work towards an appropriate teaching qualification or Fellowship.
