About the role

Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education is seeking applications for permanent Lecturer position in Education, based in Hamilton or Tauranga.

The role has a significant contribution to initial teacher education (ITE) at their centre, alongside broader teaching, research and service within the School of Education. We welcome applications from candidates with professional and/or scholarly expertise across a range of Education disciplines who can contribute to the preparation of future teachers and to the wider academic work of the School.

The role also includes supporting teacher education students during their professional experience, including undertaking professional experience visiting, evaluation and mentoring as appropriate. You will contribute to postgraduate supervision and other graduate and postgraduate teaching according to your expertise and experience.

Alongside teaching, you will maintain an active programme of research and scholarship, contributing to publications, research collaborations and, where appropriate, research funding opportunities. You will also contribute to academic administration and to professional, community, iwi and/or outreach activities relevant to the School.

Salary will be in the range of $92,603 to $110,407 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. These are full-time roles (37.5 hours a week), based in Hamilton or Tauranga. Please indicate your preferred location in your covering letter.

Who are you?

A recognised teaching qualification and relevant professional experience in education are strongly valued, particularly where these support your contribution to initial teacher education and the professional preparation of teachers. Where a practising certificate is relevant to your professional background, you will have eligibility and willingness to obtain or renew a New Zealand practising certificate.

Knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum, initial teacher education and current practices in New Zealand schools would be highly valued, as would experience evaluating and mentoring teacher education students during professional experience.

You will have a PhD, completed or near completion, in a relevant discipline, with professional and/or scholarly expertise in one or more areas relevant to the School of Education's initial teacher education programmes.

In addition will also demonstrate:

Strong teaching capability, including experience teaching undergraduate students and the ability to work effectively with both large and small groups The ability to contribute to graduate and postgraduate programmes, including supervision of Masters and PhD students An active or emerging research profile, demonstrated through publications, conference presentations or the quality of your doctoral or Masters research A commitment to innovative teaching methods, including online teaching and team-teaching approaches A commitment to culturally responsive pedagogies Strong communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills The ability to contribute constructively to School, Division and University administration The ability to engage with existing and emerging theories, models and approaches in your relevant discipline Effective use of information and communication technologies Strong organisation and time management skills
