Basketball is one of our focus sports, where we have actively developed a national reputation for excellence. Competing in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions we have won national championships, whilst our Essex Rebels teams play in elite national leagues and competitions. Alongside this we have developed innovative fan engagement programmes and won national awards for gameday entertainment and grown a large junior basketball club and schools and community engagement programme.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a basketball performance coach to join our programme, leading the coaching for our BUCS and national league men’s teams.

Duties of the Role

Lead the preparation and coaching of the men’s basketball first team including in BUCS competitions, and the Essex Rebels team in national or professional league competitions. Deliver an athlete-centred, high-performance culture that results in competitive excellence and success. Work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners to maximise athletic development in our dual-career student-athletes Supported by specialist staff, lead on achieving targets for recruitment of students to the University of Essex men’s basketball teams Support staff delivering activities associated with the University’s fan experience plan and Essex Rebels marketing plan, placing basketball game days at the centre of the student campus experience, and engaging the wider local community.

Skills and qualifications required

Proven extensive experience coaching/playing at a high-performance level of basketball Experience working in a top university sport or professional club environment Basketball England Level 2 Coaching Qualification (or international equivalent) Up-to-date knowledge of U.K. basketball talent pathways and development systems Excellent leadership, motivational, planning, time management and organisational skills Ability to build positive relationships with athletes, staff and external stakeholders Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

This role requires the ability to fulfil the requirements of a DBS check
