SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
We are looking for an R&D Chemist to join our Hull Performance Technology team in Sandefjord for a 12-months temporary employment. This is an exciting opportunity if you want to gain hands-on experience in R&D while contributing to technologies that help shipowners reduce fuel consumption and emissions through cleaner hull performance.
Our antifouling paints and fouling release coatings help shipowners preserve fuel by keeping the hull clean from fouling. Jotun-coated vessels enabled the shipping industry to avoid 11.8 million tons of CO2 emissions in 2025. Join our R&D team as an R&D Chemist - Hull Performance and contribute to our Clean Shipping Commitment by developing and improving our innovative paint technologies and market-leading products.
In this role, you will work from our headquarters in Sandefjord, and you will execute assigned R&D activities, support departmental goals, and contribute to building competence and collaboration within the professional environment.

Responsibilities
• Be responsible for assigned projects, assets, or tasks and follow up towards stakeholders to ensure that the quality satisfies the requirements and is in accordance with relevant procedures and regulations.
• Execute required practical tasks in the lab on your own or together with colleagues. This includes independent planning, formulating, making paint in the lab, testing, and evaluating results and raw materials according to procedures and plans.
• Report results of work both orally and written. Provide advice and recommendations to ensure that the decisions are taken on best current knowledge.
• Contribute to defining and initiating new tasks and contribute professionally within your own area, to increase quality of plans and execution.
• Knowledge and use of the necessary HSEQ procedures, safety equipment and safety documentation; and taking into consideration general safety.
• Attend to the daily order so that the workspace is tidy, safe, and a good place to work.

Formal requirements We are looking for someone who is engaged and proactive and wishes to both learn and share knowledge to further improve our team. When it comes to formal skills, we believe that the ideal candidate will tick off several of these boxes:
• A curious and positive person who is enthusiastic about developing new chemistry technologies and paints to support our sustainability efforts and Clean Shipping Commitment
• MSc in polymer, organic, material or silicone chemistry
• A few years of experience from chemical industry or relevant work is positive
• Relevant experience may compensate for formal education
• Good communication skills, ability to cooperate and share knowledge
• Fluent in English – both spoken and written
