Lab Automation Intern This position offers an exciting opportunity to work directly with laboratory scientists and engineers to pilot digital lab capabilities at the Morristown site. The role focuses on supporting the integration of an automated dispensing machine with laboratory computer systems, helping enable more accurate, efficient, and repeatable raw material dispensing workflows. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting laboratory automation by assisting with equipment setup, workflow testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and performance data analysis. This hands-on position requires attention to detail, strong technical curiosity, and an interest in applying engineering, automation, and digital tools to solve practical challenges in a laboratory environment. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The primary responsibilities of this role are to: Support the integration of an automated dispensing machine with laboratory computer systems to enable computer-controlled dispensing of raw materials. Assist with hardware, software, and communication interface setup between dispensing equipment and connected computer systems. Collaborate with laboratory scientists, engineers, IT teams, and automation partners to define user requirements, workflows, and system functionality. Help configure, test, and troubleshoot automated dispensing workflows to improve accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability in laboratory operations. Support documentation of system configurations, standard operating procedures, testing results, and troubleshooting guidance. Collect and analyze equipment performance data to identify opportunities for process improvements. Assist with validation, safety, and compliance activities related to automated dispensing systems within a laboratory environment. Present project updates, technical findings, and recommendations to laboratory and cross-functional stakeholders. WHO YOU ARE Bayer seeks an individual who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field. Available to complete a 3-month internship assignment. Interest in laboratory automation, equipment integration, robotics, process control, or digital laboratory systems. Basic understanding of computer-controlled equipment, sensors, communication protocols, or control systems. Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new software applications. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with laboratory equipment, automation systems, robotics, PLCs, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Python programming, data acquisition, or instrument control software. Experience utilizing AI-powered coding tools to support software development, automation scripting, troubleshooting, or prototype development. Experience troubleshooting hardware and software interfaces or integrating laboratory equipment with computer systems. Employees can expect to be paid an hourly rate of approximately between $22.75 to $47.75. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. (if relevant).
