Nemours is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to join our team in Wilmington, DE. The Iffland Lab at Nemours seeks a highly motivated and creative Post Doctoral Fellow to conduct research for both internally and externally funded projects related to genetic forms of epilepsy. This position will be under the Department of Neurology. The position will have primary reporting to Dr Iffland. A PhD in neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology, or similar terminal degree in biomedical science areas is required. Experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and rodent surgery is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in epilepsy and/or rare neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) research Primary functions include:

• Independently performs a range of experiments under the direction of the PI.

• Immunohistochemistry, Western assays, and other molecular/cellular biology techniques.

• Animal handling and survival surgeries on both mouse pups and adult mice.

• Rodent In Vivo Electrophysiology.

• Cell culture techniques on both mouse and human cells (lines and primary)

• Performs clinical and non-clinical research data analysis.

• Statistical analysis.

• Microscopy skills including confocal microscopy and live-cell imaging.

• Maintains organized and detailed handwritten and computerized records of work performed.

• May be required to perform experiments during certain weekends or after hours based scientific necessity.

• Strong writing, oral presentation, and scientific reasoning skills are required.

Miscellaneous responsibilities and qualities:

• Excellent team player, lab citizen, and scientific professional.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within, and outside of, Nemours Children’s Health.

• Ability to work with, share research with, and learn from individuals living with epilepsy and rare neurodevelopmental disorders.

• Strong desire to regularly publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, apply for grants, and present data at conferences

Qualifications:

• Ph.D in the field of neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology, or similar biomedical sciences doctorate is preferred. Candidates who do not yet have a doctorate, but will be completing their degree soon, are also encouraged to apply.

• Prior experience in epilepsy or experience with rare neurodevelopmental disorders research preferred.
