Description
A Senior Estimator at NTI leads the preparation of comprehensive cost estimates, bids, and budgets for complex low voltage projects, including structured cabling, fiber optics, security and access control, video surveillance, audio/visual, DAS, and fire alarm systems. They analyze drawings, specifications, and proposals to determine labor, material, and equipment costs while managing vendor and subcontractor pricing, negotiating, and mentoring other estimators to ensure accurate, competitive, and profitable project delivery.
Responsibilities
• Conduct initial analysis of technology, electrical, and security drawings and Division 27, 28, and related specifications to ensure required documentation is present and determine scope of work
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs of devices, cable runs, pathways, and head-end equipment; develop unit costs; and evaluate labor, material, and equipment requirements
• Develop full-scope estimates based on Bid-Build, Design-Build, or CM/GC construction documents
• Develop design-assist and budgetary pricing for low voltage systems where documents are incomplete
• Identify scope gaps and coordination issues with electrical and other trades, and prepare clear inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications
• Perform constructability reviews and identify value engineering opportunities and potential cost savings to enhance competitiveness
• Accurately assess and plan takeoff workload
• Gather and monitor actual cost vs. estimated cost, maintaining project cost history and refining labor units
• Train and supervise junior estimators and ensure departmental accuracy
Requirements
• 7–10+ years in construction estimating, with significant experience estimating low voltage systems
• Working knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI) and low voltage system components; RCDD or manufacturer certifications a plus
• Knowledge and efficiency in the following software: Microsoft Office (advanced Excel) and Bluebeam
• Strong computer skills, including the ability to use estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, etc.
• Strong mathematical skills, deep knowledge of low voltage materials and labor, and excellent negotiation abilities
