Lead Construction Worker - Richmond
Job Description
Lighting Maintenance Inc. is seeking an experienced and dependable Lead Construction Worker to join our Richmond Division. The Lead Construction Worker will oversee and participate in daily construction activities while providing hands-on leadership to a crew of three or more employees.
The ideal candidate has strong construction experience, understands utility locating and MISS Utility markings, can operate heavy construction equipment, read blueprints, work with concrete, and safely use a variety of power and hand tools. This position requires someone who can lead by example, maintain a safe and productive work environment, and travel as needed to support company projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and supervise a construction crew of 3 or more employees.
• Plan and coordinate daily work activities with the crew and management.
• Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and project specifications.
• Understand and properly identify MISS Utility markings and underground utility locations.
• Operate construction equipment including:
• Excavators
• Skid steers
• Trenchers
• Other related construction equipment
• Perform excavation, trenching, grading, and site preparation activities.
• Assist with concrete work, including preparation, placement, finishing, and related tasks.
• Safely operate power tools, hand tools, and construction equipment.
• Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
• Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, customers, and other contractors.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable job-site procedures.
• Perform physically demanding construction work, including lifting, digging, bending, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Travel to job sites as needed.
• Perform other construction-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Previous experience in construction, utility work, electrical construction, site work, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a crew of three or more employees.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction plans.
• Knowledge of MISS Utility markings and underground utility safety.
• Experience operating excavators, skid steers, trenchers, or similar equipment.
• Experience working with concrete.
• Ability to safely operate power tools and hand tools.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
• Commitment to workplace and job-site safety.
Preferred Qualifications
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Aerial lift experience
• Experience in sports lighting, electrical construction, utility construction, or site development.
• Additional heavy equipment certifications or training.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform physical construction duties, including standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying materials, digging, bending, climbing, kneeling, and operating equipment. Employees may be required to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
