About this role

Purpose of the Role

The Site Engineer is responsible for the accurate setting out of works on site and for ensuring that construction is carried out in line with approved drawings, specifications, and Building Regulations. The role acts as the technical link between the design team and site operations, maintaining quality, accuracy, and up-to-date documentation throughout the project to support the safe and efficient delivery of the build.

Main responsibilities

Setting Out

• Set out works for subcontractors, providing gridlines and levels to groundworks, RC frame, foundations, floor slabs, blockwork, services, and civil works.

• Set out house plots on housing projects and issue surveys to solicitors.

• Supervise and monitor groundworks and civil engineering contractors.

• Supervise and monitor concrete frame contractors.

Quality Control & Compliance

• Monitor and evaluate quality control of subcontractors' work, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and Building Regulations.

• Conduct inspections and sign-offs at key stages (e.g. foundations, DPC, frame) before cover-up.

• Maintain site records and quality assurance documentation, keeping them up to date.

Coordination & Documentation

• Coordinate site drawings, ensuring the latest revisions are issued and superseded versions are removed from circulation.

• Maintain drawing registers and communicate revisions promptly to the site team and subcontractors.

• Consult with the design team and consultants to resolve technical queries and discrepancies.

Essential

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

• 3–5 years' post-qualification experience (PQE), ideally within residential/housebuilding.

• Proficient in setting out using GPS/Total Station equipment.

• Full clean driving licence.
