About this role
ABOUT CARBONET
CarboNet is a Vancouver-based water treatment company with operations in Canada and the US. We're developing innovative solutions to critical challenges in industrial wastewater treatment, with our head office, R&D lab, and production facility in Vancouver, and a second production facility in Texas. We're at an exciting inflection point—past the R&D phase, scaling our commercial operations, and expanding into multiple new markets. Our leadership team brings deep technical and business expertise, and we're building a culture where people can make a real impact.
THE ROLE
We're looking for an Accountant to support our month-end close and full-cycle accounting operations. This is a hybrid role with flexibility on in-office days—you'll have autonomy to structure your week around what works best for the team and the business.
This is a training-focused role designed for someone working toward their CPA designation. You'll receive structured mentorship and hands-on guidance as you build competency across our financial operations. As a small, growing company, you'll get genuine exposure to all aspects of our accounting: GL management, reconciliations, accruals, reporting, and board-level support. You'll work closely with our leadership team to support fundraising and strategic planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support and eventually lead month-end close process and financial statement preparation • Manage general ledger, account reconciliations, and accrual entries under guidance • Process payroll and coordinate with HR on compensation matters • Assist in the preparation of management, investor, and board reporting • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives • Help build and document accounting procedures as we scale • Coordinate with external auditors and advisors
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Currently enrolled in or working toward CPA designation (or equivalent accounting designation) • Strong foundational accounting knowledge (or willingness to learn quickly) • Ability to work independently with clear direction and ask good questions • Comfort with growth and changing priorities in a lean environment • Genuine interest in scaling with the company (this role has real development potential) • Detail-oriented and organized approach to financial tasks
WHAT WE OFFER
• Structured training and mentorship from experienced financial leadership • Real-world exposure to mid-market accounting operations • Flexibility and autonomy in how you structure your work week • Opportunity to grow into a senior accounting role as you complete your CPA • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience $45,000-$50,000
